I'm so over not having hot water! It's warm (ok it was warm yesterday and the day before, it isn't today) and very humid right now. I can't wash clothes because I can't dry them. It's been wet and windy most days and whilst we're not getting the worst of the weather that south east Queensland & north east NSW have been getting, we are getting the tail end of it. Not as bad as murphyscreek or Frizz1974 but we don't have a tumble drier so can't wash & dry clothes unless the weather cooperates.

And because it's not sunny, I can't use my solar shower bags to get hot water either! Our landlady and landlord tried to get a plumber to replace the boiler yesterday but the plumber failed to turn up. The plumber that did turn up was here to fix a leak that I couldn't demonstrate because I don't have hot water... The leak only drips for a short period when you run the hot tap in the bathroom basin. If you stop running the tap the moment hot water arrives in the sink, the shower sounds like it is leaking in the wall.... of course you can't get at the pipes in the wall and I can't demonstrate because I've no hot water.

It stopped being hot on Wednesday night but because I don't use much hot water, I didn't notice until Thursday afternoon. I just thought I'd gone mad so said nothing until hubby got home and confirmed that it was by now only luke warm... by Friday it was almost cold... so the hot water heater is trying to work but not being very successful.... my landlady offered us their gas camping shower, but they couldn't get it to work... so back to boiling the kettle, washing in cold water and using that awful dry powder shampoo on my hair. I really need a shower. Plus it's not that warm here right now so I'm not inclined to have a cold shower. I think I'm over that stage of my life! Lol.

And with all the pressure testing of the pipes, the sediment in the pipes has been stirred up, so the irony is that our only drinking water is the now cold water in the hot water tank until the pipes and the tank settle back down. You have no idea how glad i am that tomorrow's electricity cut has been cancelled. Lighting a fire would have been my only way to keep the chicks warm.... (they have a reptile ceramic heat lamp for warmth in their cage. The youngest were 2 weeks only on Friday)...

I am feeling your pain.

We had a whole 10 hours without rain on Saturday but that’s not what was predicted so I didn’t wash the towels like I should have.

I moved the inside clothes line to the front of the house yesterday. That room is naturally warmer as it gets light from sunrise and it’s attached to the gaming room where 2 big powerful computers generate heat 24/7. The front room also houses the lizard tank, so more heat.

I moved the stand fan so it blew air from the gaming room directly onto the clothes thru the open door.

The clothes were almost properly dry by 4am when I needed to pack for work. My bamboo socks weren’t though. I will put them in the drier when I get to Eastwood.

Outside is 19°C and 85% humidity. Inside is 20°C and only 79% humidity. I'm not sure showering will actually achieve anything right now. There's certainly no chance of drying anything with the humidity as high as it is, though despite the low cloud the UV is surprisingly high at 3 (out of 15)... I've just walked to the postbox, up to the top chook house and back to the house and the sweat is dripping off me.

I think I'll just go back to digging holes in the veg plot until it rains again. I need to get the fertiliser (chook shit from 3 years ago) into the veg plot do I can get my winter veg sewn... one thing at a time though. I still need to harvest all of my summer crops. Potatoes are all in. Now for the remainder...

And on a brighter note, my mother's Christmas present has finally turned up. It was delivered today after being posted on the 19th November. It has literally been all the way around the world...

Its a real shame that I posted it to her though! I posted it to the UK on the 19th November. Royal Mail returned it to me on the 20th December. It's only just arrived in Australia.

Why did they return it to you? :scratchhead:
Returned as not collected from the post office but my mum never received a card to collect and I know they would have done because 2 days earlier they did collect the other presents we sent. These socks (6 pairs of hand knit socks) were accidentally missed out of the main box of presents, so posted a couple of days later.

I finally had a shower this afternoon....
Still no hot water from our system, but our landlord/lady have a camping hot water system that they brought round today.

This takes camping to a whole new level... our solution if we're doing luxury (aka hot water) is a solar hot water bag that warms up during the day.... this is their solution!

We used it with the extractor fan on and the window open by the way.... not meant for use inside even a tent!

It's an Aqua Cube and actually not that expensive, but not exactly the kind of portable camping set-up we're used to. Still getting the hang of Aussie style camping!

But I finally had a hot shower.... been 9 or 10 days since the last one (I was planning on one left Thursday when I found out the water wasn't hot, kind of how I found out...). So now I can go to physio and knitting club tomorrow! Yeah.

Stopping by for the first time in a week to say hi
Had family in town over the weekend and cleanup of the house took all my free time prior to their arrival. Cooked for the parents 2 of the nights they were with me; one night was steaks and baked potatoes, the other night was garlic butter baked salmon served with wild rice. The salmon was the clear winner in the house. Brother in law made brisket on the weekend (and its better than mine LOL).

Dad fell today. He hit is head. An ambulance took him to the hospital where my sister works. He's home now. He has 8 surgical staples in the back of his head. He starts physical therapy next week to work on his leg strength and balance, so hopefully he will stop falling.

hugs & kisses on your boo-boo, get better Pops

FowlersFreeTime  Nice to see ya, how's your Missus doing btw?
She is doing well, and the baby is healthy thus far (always grateful for those Ultrasound checkups). Not sure if I said it on the board yet, but we found out its going to be a girl. We've only just begun looking at names.

Ouch, hope he gets well soon!

Ouch, hope he gets well soon!

He's fine. His only major gripe was that he didn't get to eat dinner until almost 9 PM. He keeps a VERY rigid meal schedule. Dinner is at 5 PM, whether he is hungry or not.

We are really hoping that the physical therapy will help him not fall as much.

His younger brother has Parkinson's. My dad is showing multiple signs of it, too. My uncle is 11 years younger than my dad, so he is able to do the extensive medication and therapy regimen pretty easily, and gets around quite well. My dad would not be able to do it, without moving into assisted living.
