The view from my window

We did get a bit of freezing rain here - not enough to break branches or cause power outages, just a couple mm. It looked really pretty when I got up this morning.

While we were ok here, unfortunately some of the areas north of us got absolutely walloped - 20 mm accumulation of freezing rain. Widespead power outages, and apparently tree canopies have been absolutely devastated. Chatter on the internet says they can hear the cracks and branches breaking every 2-3 minutes, apparently some areas look like absolute war zones.

I always thought a prune was a dried plum - so what exactly is a prune tree?
It is actually a different type of plum over here in Australia. It is smaller than usual but much sweeter than the average plum (and plums can be huge here in Australia - 2 years ago, I needed 1kg of plums and that was less than 5 individual plums. I have a thread about it somewhere.

Anyhow - they are a variety of plum that is smaller, not plum shaped, but more oval and much sweeter even when still unripe. And we have one growing in our garden (It took me a while to identify it).

They're not damsons are they?
no they are not.
and oddly enough it is really difficult to get damsons over here. We used to have 4 or 5 very old but very happy damson trees when we lived in Surrey and they would be bent over double with the weight of damsons every year. I do miss those.

Not really a window, but a door:

We had a full-on blizzard earlier (there was even thunder and lightning!). Now it’s pouring rain. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 18 degrees.

As they say - if you don’t like the weather in Canada, just wait 5 minutes!
