Tips, tricks or hacks.

When grinding garlic (or chili's, ginger etc) in pestle and mortar, add some coarse salt. It makes it easier

Add a little oil when mincing by knife on a cutting board. It prevents the pieces from flying everywhere

Put used (dry) tea bags in a jar with methylated spirits, thinners or turpetine to make easy fire lighters for your charcoal bbq/grill
I like those!

The tea bags one is clever.
I’d have to wait for the summer to be able to dry teabags out though.

You know the shower caps they have next to the toiletries at most hotels? They make excellent bowl covers. They expand or contract to snugly fit various sizes. I use them when proofing dough but they're great for keeping flying insects out of picnic or outdoor cooking foods too.

Yeah when in a hurry or you have dough or whatever on your hands, it's so much easier than trying to tear a piece of plastic wrap off to cover the bowl. And I reuse mine over and over again if no visible particulates get on them (bread dough ones get used only for bread dough).

I have boatload of them somewhere left over from some travels to places that still have a lot of parasites in the water supply.
I got paranoid about parasitic water sitting in my lugholes at shower time so bought a load of them and still have about 100 left 😂

I just use a plate - small to medium to large - depends on the bowl . . .

To easily remove the shells of hard or soft-boiled quail's eggs, cover them in vinegar and leave for 15 mins. Use a cheap vinegar! If you put them in a large mug you need less vinegar than a bowl. The vinegar literally dissolves and softens the shell and it slips off easily.

Anyone who has struggled peeling a quail's egg will appreciate this tip.
