Today’s pics

It's taken up typing... better than the sound track to the presentation I was trying to record this morning, 😆

Fish eagle?
It’s a bald eagle. I’ve seen them before, but never at the cottage where we were vacationing.

They seem to be having a good year; there was a pair nesting in the city near me for the first time in recorded history (I saw one of them out the window of the train!), and we saw one flying overhead on one of our evening walks once.

Very encouraging, especially given that they used to be endangered!

We had some of that here last night as well.
Us as well, although I didn’t bother to go outside
Nice
We have fish eagles plenty.
Their call is pretty amazing
They look similar The African Fish Eagle Versus The Bald Eagle
That’s really cool! They do look really similar - and bald eagles also eat mostly fish. We get ospreys around the area commonly (there are a few nests around) - they’re another hawk that mostly eats fish.

We had some of that here last night as well.
Yeah, my brother did in the UK as well.

The UK is at latitude 51-59...
i'm not sure about the USA (30-49 - looked it up). We're at -33° so roughly the same as south Georgia or Louisiana, so it's pretty rare here and it's the first time we've seen it.

We also had a 50% moon bright enough for us not to need a torch to walk around unfamiliar grounds in the dark, so I was delighted to see it.
