Travel Plans 2025

It all sounds exhausting to me. My idea of a holiday is to go somewhere and stay there (ideally by the sea in the UK and preferably in self catering so there is more than just one room), cook with local produce and eat out at seafood restaurants or fine dining restaurants. No itinerary. Just potter about or sit on a balcony looking at the sea.
Here here on that!

Well, I really wanted to go to Hawaii, but we are going to do some extensive mainland traveling instead. I just booked us for 2 weeks at a resort south of Myrtle Beach, SC for October. It's about 11 hours away so we will drive and stay somewhere overnight along the way there and back. We have been to this resort twice before. It's quiet and laid back, just the way we like it. It has a fantastic pool within easy walking distance of our condo. It's on some small lakes that have geese, ducks, and turtles to look at from the back deck and it's about 2 miles from the beach. But they have a free shuttle to the public beach where you normally have to pay to park, and they have free passes to the state park beach about 10 miles away that's just an amazing place. You can walk for miles there without seeing many people.

The time of year we are going the temperatures are perfect: high 70s and 80s durng the day and 60s at night. Plus there aren't many people in town during the month of October as it's off season and kids are back in school. We have a full kitchen and the resort is about 7 miles away from this fantastic seafood market we like to go to, so I am really looking forward to making some meals there. We will go out to eat some, but probably not that much as I have a lot of experience cooking seafood after living in Florida for so many years and we can save a lot of money by staying in and cooking.

Then in November we are making a trip to Texas to visit family and will probably go for 3 weeks. We will fly into Houston where my brother lives and hang out a couple days, then either rent a car or use one of his vehicles to go over to Port Arthur (near the Louisiana border, about 1.5 hours away) to visit my last remaining aunt and my cousins for a few days. One of my cousins has a guest house we can stay in. Then back to Houston for a few days, then over to Austin to see my sister and my middle daughter and our grandson for about a week or so, then back to Houston for a few days before we fly back home.

Next looking at renting a beachhouse in Siesta Key for a month or two sometime between January-March 2026!

Not a long haul to swing some seafood by Rome on the way back... 😉

In addition to the snazzy fridge-freezer plug-in cooler thingy for the car (for some road trips coming up, posted about in another topic), we also bought a brand-spanking new, cutting edge, state-of-the-art Rand McNally road atlas…large-print edition, too. No expense spared!

Look at that…11 foodie road trips…my day just gets better and better! 😎

About a week to go before I set off.
I'm putting things I need in a dedicated corner and then the fun comes of trying to get it inside my car
In the end it will all work somehow.
My roofrack is already in Lusaka as the feet don't fit my car. The (hopefully) right feet will come with my friend who I need to pick up from the airport
We will travel in the other direction, further away from my house, so gotta think of everything, incl camping gear, fuel containers, cooking stuff etc etc

Got home yesterday after a long unwanted time away and am supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow.
Am very tired and would rather enjoy being at home but it is the Isle of Man (only 1hr by plane) and the start of ‘Classic TT’ is on.
And I’ve already paid for everything (bar eating out), including the steam trains dining cars ‘Gin and Sin’ evening.
It’s a Pullman style dining car built in 1905.
They really look after things over there, the majority of the old engineering is still in good working order since Victorian times.

Let’s see how the day goes!

At the airport 👏
Dog tired and pretty excited, will be the first of a few recces to decide if this is a place I want to go and live 😃

Have never left to go away in such a disorganised rush ever in my life! Left the house in a real mess!
Fortunately the freedom of motorcycling touring taught me winging it can be a lot of fun so🤞🤩

Right now I'm sitting in departures placing an amazon order to the hotel for all the things I already know I've forgotten 😆

We just booked 10 days in Rome come this spring. We've plan to take a couple of day trips outside. As some of you probably know, I lived south of there in a town called Frozinone. My wife would like to see it so we'll go there for a day to walk around. It was a long time ago. There is another little cool town perched on a mountain there we used to go and eat pizza. My son was born up there too. I'd like to revisit it at that time if it is convenient.
