I’m assuming you mean mulberries from trees and not some bush variety - if so, around here, they’re considered a huge nuisance, as the root system is quite destructive, and droppings from birds that eat the berries seem especially effective at messing up car paint.Anyone grown Mulberries?
Whiskey barrels are way large enough for a multitude (spelled mostly all) of plants and depending on the plant, more than one in the pot. Mulberry trees are just that, trees that can grow as tall as parking lot light poles...I’m trying to decide what to put on the veranda when it’s finished.
Anyone grown Mulberries?
Part of me wants some huge easy to care for cacti the other part of me some dwarf fruit trees.
I’m just not sure I want to be encouraging insects into my outdoor kitchen (when it’s finally finished) but then I don’t think I’ve ever tasted fresh Mulberries.
Or perhaps I want to just grow tomatoes and cucumbers. I don’t know, I’m completely ignorant about growing things in containers.
What ever I choose it has to be able to thrive in large containers, probably whisky barrels 🤷♀️
Is that so?!I’m assuming you mean mulberries from trees and not some bush variety - if so, around here, they’re considered a huge nuisance, as the root system is quite destructive, and droppings from birds that eat the berries seem especially effective at messing up car paint.
Sounds like our blueberries here. You can see the plants but for ice cream you have to go shopping...Is that so?!
We have a large amount of blackberry bushes here so acidic bird poo is already a thing 😂
I would be a dwarf tree variety in a planter so I’m not sure if that would put a different complexion on things?
I’m also considering a dwarf cherry tree. Love cherries and the cherry tree we have here provides the birds with a fabulous bounty, we don’t get a single berry.
I’m only considering dwarf or ‘patio’ trees.Whiskey barrels are way large enough for a multitude (spelled mostly all) of plants and depending on the plant, more than one in the pot. Mulberry trees are just that, trees that can grow as tall as parking lot light poles...
There are *many* varieties of tomatoes that grow well in pots. Cucumbers can too but you need a place/thing for the vines to grow on. You can get "masonry ladder" for cheap and arch it between pots for cucumbers.
masonry ladder at DuckDuckGo
You're welcome! Cheapest thing I could find for vining type veggies.I’m only considering dwarf or ‘patio’ trees.
Height is a consideration as is the watering because it will be mainly covered by the roof.
I’m familiar with growing tomatoes and I have grown cucumbers, fancied something different hence the cacti thoughts.
Thanks for the masonry ladder tip.
I’d think a planter version would be fine.It would be a dwarf tree variety in a planter so I’m not sure if that would put a different complexion on things?
They sound like a real pest!!I’d think a planter version would be fine.
It’s funny, around here, you can tell where the mulberry trees are because you’ll pull into the car park at the doc’s office or the dentist or whatever, and you’ll see car, car, car, empty space, empty space, empty space, car, car, car…and you know that big empty space is where there’s a mulberry tree!
Please tell about the turmeric!I have just taken delivery of a feed gooseberry bush, along with turmeric, ginger and black cardamom. The latter will have to be a house plant though due to temperature problems in winter.
I wanted a particular turmeric variety and the ginger plant got me to free postage...
