What did you cook, eat or drink today (December 2018)?

I took a portion of chilli out of the freezer and thought "that looks a bit bland". How can it possibly look bland? Anyway, I added a few more Thai hot chillis and reheated it.

It had never been bland!

A copycat version of my guilty pleasure, Filet-O-Fish sandwich from McDonald's. Battered Cod fillet, tartar sauce with mayonnaise and relish, slice of American cheese on a toasted hamburger bun. French fries and coleslaw on the side.

We won a meat tray at pub the other day, 2 X t bones and other meat. T bone for dinner tonight with my garlic sauce. Kumara chips done in the oven. Corn and mix vege in a bag that you microwave. I really like these veges in a bag. Ready in 3 mins. I'm out of my garlic sauce I keep in the freezer so I have to make a batch up from scratch.

Take out Cuban food. We went to this place for breakfast last weekend and it was great! Not really thrilled with my dinner. Craig liked his though.

It was my birthday a few days ago and last night (in the rain) a neighbour turned up with a late present for me … a selection of pâtisserie médiéval. I don’t know who made them but I suspect that they’re home-made (not by my neighbour) and were prepared as a traditional offering for sale at one of the many local village Christmas fairs that are held in this area in mid-December.

Goodness only knows what they are – the thing that looks like fudge is, I suspect, marzipan (FR massepain, Old English.. marchpane). The ones that resemble vol-au-vents (I think) have an almond paste inside. As for the rest, well … your guess is as good as mine. But they do look tempting – what a nice surprise, and what a thoughtful present.

Further note … the vol-au-vents are actually an early version of the English mince pie, and are full of a fig paste. Fantastic!

Chinese delivery. A rerun from September 29 (posted in the Dinner thread).

Two of my favorite dishes.

"Shrimp and mixed vegetables... Lots of delicious veggies i.e. snow peas, broccoli, carrots, baby corn, bok choy, mushrooms, etcetera.

Moo goo gai pan. Love the snow White velveted pieces of chicken with all the yummy vegetables added in. The dishes came with wonton soup, fried rice, and egg rolls

...fortune cookies..."

I like their food, but the portion size went down, and the price went up. Next time I'll make my own recipe for egg foo yung and Moo Goo Gai Pan.
