What did you cook/eat today (July 2017)?

@Yorky please talk to me about these Bovril roast potatoes.

Peel, cut and boil the potatoes (bite size) for about 5 minutes. Drain in a colander and allow to cool. Heat the Bovril in warm water then dribble over the potatoes (still in the colander) in a cris cross pattern. Shake the potatoes around (over the sink) until they are well covered. Then put in a baking tray, brush with olive oil and roast in the oven. I roasted mine in the halogen for 20 minutes at 200 degC.

These are some that I prepared earlier:

It's funny...I was on holiday for 10 days and fully enjoyed myself, but it also drove me crazy that I wasn't able to cook anything, except for an excursion in Mexico where we made salsa and guacamole...and margaritas. But, I can't count that because I was only following instructions along with everyone else. I think we can all agree that this is not the same thing. I've made Mexican food for years, and have had a ready source of authentic points of reference, Mexican Town in Detroit. But, Cajun food was always something I had to accept based on what local interpretations have shown me, or what I saw on the internet.

Having just visited New Orleans, however, I can now definitively say that I know what the real thing is supposed to be. My earlier efforts were actually very close. Now, however, I can say that I know exactly what it's supposed to be like, and I'm overjoyed that I was able to reproduce it. I made this 2 days ago: you can tell that this is mine because that's my countertop, and because the presentation is shoddy as ever. I wanted to get the recipe together before I posted the picture, but that's taking longer that expected. So, here it is: Shrimp and Oyster Gumbo with Fried Shrimp. The fried shrimp is double-breaded with cornmeal, and it was very crunchy, but I still didn't achieve the monstrous crunch of the oyster po boy I posted a few days ago. That will be a future project.

Got my hands on some wild boar sausage...not sure what I'm going to do with them yet..news at 8f

I taught my wife how to make calamari marinara tonight.

It came out very good.

Today, I made some meatballs and roasted vegetables (turnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, onion, celery and garlic). We are also having beans with French fries and cornbread.

Meatballs how? In a sauce or gravy? Just swimmin' with the veggies?

last night was a 'the day didn't happen' night. I could only single task and was so far behind on my list of jobs that have to be done (when you have animals thing have to happen no matter what) that evening meal didn't happen... so it was a bale to the freezer and chippy... we ended up with bangers and chips served with mayo and senap. no photos - I still haven't repaired my phone but that's a job for a day when I am not dropping everything, banging into everything, spilling everything and generally not even managing to sweep up the mess either! I did manage to keep the fire lit though. Yesterday was freezing here. Something just focus your mind a touch more than others...

Well you take some ground beef, a bit of onion, garlic, bell peppers (used red and green), a couple of eggs and a handful of bread crumbs. Mix that together, then roll in a 4 to 1 mixture of flour and cornmeal. Make approximate 1 oz balls. I used my cookie scoop. Then drop them in the deep fryer at 375 for about 3 and a half minutes.
Will decide on a sauce later.
The veggies were diced very fine. My new chopper worked wonders. It is a Savant. Debating on a name.
The new Veg-o-matics are about useless.

Hubby had to run to Lowe's to get a couple of things for his playroom - he's taken up woodworking in a corner of our basement and I'm seriously thrilled. He has needed a hobby since being retired, and he's having great fun. However, by the time he looked and read and touched and...drove me nuts, I grabbed a take-and-bake pizza when I shopped at Aldi. Eh, it quieted the hungry monster. Not pretty enough for photos.
