What did you cook or eat today (July 2019)?

Just arrived in my nations capital, and I ate at a restaurant that had a creative twist on the Cuban dish: saffron rice and pickles with green olives. The pork wasn’t spicy, but it was tasty.

You know what chicken pot pie tastes like, right? They manage to pack all the best of your mom's pot pie into little nuggets of awesome (left).

Spring rolls are often greasy, but the shiitake mushroom spring rolls are light and bursting with mushroom flavor.

Expensive (of course) but we’re less than a mile from the White House, so the price isn’t a shock.

Wasn't all that hungry so just wanted a prawn baguette for lunch, this was a little more than expected

Prawn baguette sounds great.

What are those weird shaped spoons?

Strictly what Lu and I ate last night.

To start, steak tartar with dried egg yolk and caviar

Then gazpacho with salt cod.

The starter was snow crab cannelloni with a blue mussel foam.

The fish course, hake with charred lettuce and a fish veloute

Carrot and asparagas with a smoked confit egg yolk and a cauliflower cream
20190701_205730.jpg

Baby goat, potato profiteroles, greens and a tomato mayonaise

A pallet cleanser of raspberry, rhubarb and elderflower

Then finally flavours of strawberry on chocolate with a strawberry churos.

All washed down with a splendid white rioja.

How superb! That's what I call dining out.

 (faints...)

I've never paid that much for a bottle of wine. But - well, I suppose you are on holiday.
The prices here in Balestrand where we are now are a little more reasonable, a 0.5l beer cost around £8 rather than the £11-13 they wanted in Bergen, the food is similarly better priced. If you take out the rubbish exchange rate caused by the Brexit shambles then really the prices wouldn't be so eye wateringly frightening for us Brits.
