I guessed it was the first time I saw it but due to the glossy shine I doubted it for a while. But this picture explains it.

For those who don't know lebkuchen; it's basically German gingerbread but German lebkuchen is more chewy than English gingerbread.

I love the iced variety, I bought some last year actually ! It's also sold covered in chocolate.
