What kind of music do you like (2024)?

Not really my thing; I preferred sacred music and things like Schubert Lieder
Oh yes, I can totally understand , those are different directions for singers to undertake as career paths.
Schubert is wonderful, I just don't identify with him.personally, if, then Mendelssohn more so, but that is a preference.
Mahler and Schoenberg ( I know you must detest) have some very interesting Lieder.

I much prefer the voice accompanied by an orchestra, although for some piano is very organic.

Mahler I enjoy. the sheer power of his huge orchestras is impressive.
Schoenberg, however, I could never ( and still can't) get my head around. Dodecaphonic music, where every note has an equal weight, means no melody to me, and definitely no harmony. Still, everyone to their own; it would be really boring if everyone liked the same thing.

Lovely. Nice to hear.

I am always impressed how thoroughly people in the audience know about a musician and follow his path ...concerts, recordings...

Indeed, not an easy task at all. B, if you mean B major bears 5 sharps, but if you can think of all the music half a tone lower, from C to B, that's all there is to it and Bob's your uncle, you got it.

But, very few students can do that, and it would mostly be composition or conducting students, I reckon. From what I gather, though, jazz musicians are superior in regard to harmony. or ought to be. Hats off.
I think it was just his way of informing my friend that he was doing fine but not yet ready for training at Peterson's level. Changing keys with an instrument like guitar is a matter of changing frets. The fingering is the same. On the piano it is a different issue entirely. Few pianists could do what Peterson asked him to do without practicing.

One night in Chicago Peterson entertained requests from the audience. I asked him to play some Bach. He did and masterfully then he launched into a jazz version of the same composition. He had formidable talent. I spent this evening listening to some of his recordings.

I’m super excited - husband and I just scored tickets to see Metallica in April!! 🤘🤘🤘

They’re playing 2 shows in our city with 2 completely different set lists, no repeats. So we got one of the packages that includes both shows. Limp Bizkit is opening for them one night, Pantera the other night.

16 year old me genuinely thought that Limp Bizkit was the coolest band in the world for a while, so I must sheepishly admit I’m pretty excited to see them, if only for the nostalgia factor!

I've just spent two afternoons listening to Kate Bush's full repertoire (130 odd songs).

Previous afternoons were Van Morrison, Mott the Hoople, The Who, Bob Dylan, King Crimson, Traffic, Queen, Jake Thackray, Pink Floyd, The Troggs, Yes, B.B. King, Long John Baldry, etc., etc.

[Edit: and Planxty]
Yes army dreamers i listen because of wars but also civilians in those senseless wars that are battling everywhere.

Our little army boy
Is coming home from B.F.P.O.
I've a bunch of purple flowers
To decorate mammy's hero
Mourning in the aerodrome
The weather warmer, he is colder
Four men in uniform
To carry home my little soldier

Lying in my tent, I can hear your cry echoing round the mountainside.

You sound lonely.

Saw Kraftwerk in Bilbao when they played Tour de France in full. Also seen Jean Michael Jarre perform in front of the Jodrell Bank Lovell Telescope, Depeche Mode in Birmingham where average, and I listen occasionally to my Dead Can Dance collection, although from the 4AD stable I prefer This Mortal Coil, and of course The Cocteau Twins.
I am currently getting absorbed by the Polish composer and pianist Hania Rani.

I was having one of those days yesterday (my alarm failed to go off and I was late to work, I missed a coworker’s message about lunch and didn’t get there until late, had to leave lunch early to get to a meeting and spent most of the day hungry and grouchy…you get the idea).

We went to the pub after work; and I had a few beers and decided to buy tickets to see Disturbed to cheer myself up. Yet another 25th anniversary of a debut album - these shows are great but they sure make me feel old!
