When our nieces would stay with us for a weekend out for their mom and dad, we would put them to bed, and then we would go to bed. My ex-wife slept like the dead, so if one of the girls woke up and started crying, I would look at my sleeping wife for a minute, hoping she would wake up, and then get out of bed and deal with the crying child.
