Many rural dwellings in Thailand are the same. However, there is no toilet seat to get wet. Generally Thais will just squat.
Yes I was lucky to stay in places with western toilets. In China I was avoiding public bathrooms like the plague.

My mom and I had a good time in Japan figuring out the gadgets.

A man sees a sign in front of a house: “Talking Dog for Sale.”
He rings the bell and the owner tells him that the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a black mutt just sitting there.

“You talk?” he asks.
“Of course,” the dog replies.
“So what’s your story?”

The dog looks up and says, “Well, I discovered my gift of talking quite young and I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they had me jetting from country to country, sitting with spies and world leaders in rooms because no one thought a dog was eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies eight years running.

The jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I was not getting any younger and I wanted to settle down. So I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security work, mostly wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. There I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. Had a wife, a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.”

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner how much he wants for the dog.

The owner says, “Ten dollars.”

The guy says, “This dog is amazing. Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?”

“Because he’s a liar. He didn’t do any of that stuff!”

Since we are on the amazing topic of bathrooms. In Hong Kong and in some places in Iran the shower was just a hand held showerhead positioned somewhere above the toilet seat. You could not take a shower without showering the toiled seat as well and you'd get the room floor wet too if you didn't close the bathroom door.
My granddad built their home, and he included a drain in the basement floor and a shower head installed coming out of the exposed water pipes overhead. No walls, no door, no screen, no privacy. The basement had an outside entrance and it was meant to be used as a way to clean off after coming in from outside without tracking dust, mud, grease, dirt and whatever else through the house.

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked, kicked and screamed, then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behaviour."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behaviour, the bird spoke-up, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

Outdoor showers are very common in beach houses. You rinse the sand and salt off outside. They sometimes have partial walls for privacy, if you want to take a full shower.
