Sugar Land was actually built around a sugar mill, and is now the home base for Imperial Sugar Company, one of the largest sugar companies in the US. A lot of sugar cane is grown on the Texas Gulf coast.

Yes some place names here are related to a characteristic of the place itself, or something that happen there. Leaves you wandering what happened in the place called Sale of girls :whistling:

Other places were named by the Muslims during the time they ruled in the Iberian peninsula. All the places that have name that start with "Al" come from the Muslims.
 
Yeah, german pioneers were funny as well, but they didn't name a town fhskdbfuxkdkxnshsknxndhakalala (I'm sorry if it's written wrong, but I can't remember Welsh towns good)
