I’ll add that the cracked black pepper American cheese was very nice, and that brand of low-sodium ham is one I prefer to Boar’s Head. Marc’s is the only place I can find either of those.

I'm guessing the reduced sodium ramen only has one day's worth of sodium in it, instead of two days worth.

Boar's Head is the only brand of low sodium deli meat I can get here, at least as far as I have seen.

I’m their target audience, because 100% of the reason I bought it: “Wow! Blue packaging! I haven’t seen that before!”

I didn’t even know it was low sodium until I got it home.

I just looked it up. That "reduced sodium" ramen has 570MG of sodium. That's a lot of sodium for a small amount of food.

I was at my favorite Green Grocer and they had thick cut Bacon on sale, I'll take a pound please.

I put six slices in the oven to cook and got almost a 1/2 cup for grease!

We got'sta eat us some more Bacon!

So about the same then! I wonder who buys those avocados from the gourmet shop...

Hass avocados are considered to be the best, so they are probably more expensive. They originated in California, and are the majority of California avocados. Most of the imported avocados here are not the Hass variety. They only grow them in one area of Southern Mexico. Apparently, they also are a big crop in New Zealand.

And Australia. Australia doesn't import much if it can grow it's own. Almonds, avocados and mangos are big crops in Australia, but that doesn't mean they are cheap all of the time.
Avocados dropped to 90c (AUD)/60c (USD) for a hass avocado at one point a couple of months ago. They were $2.20 AUD ($1.40 USD) on Saturday when I looked at them and didn't buy them at my local supermarket.

Two cauliflowers, a pack of sliced pepperoni, two litres of cow's milk and 10 cases of beer.

I find it amusing that the law states that alcohol cannot be sold between midnight and 11:00 AM and between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM but only the major supermarkets and the 7-11 franchise take any notice. The law excludes the sale of 10 litres or more alcohol to one buyer but the supermarket staff either cannot get their heads around that or do not know how to determine how many bottles amount to 10 litres (most beer is sold in 330ml cans or 620ml/630ml bottles).

As far as I know, hotels are exempt. How difficult would it be to keep every minibar locked during the prohibited hours?

The government here when making laws don't consider the practicalities of complying with them or enforcing them.

I have been wondering for quite a while why you don't go to the deli counter and buy your deli meats fresh sliced.

CD

The pre-sliced stuff has a longer shelf life, and I’d read a little blurb awhile back from some government agency (FDA, USDA, one of those or the like) that fresh-sliced deli meats had a much higher incidence of contamination because of the handling and usually being co-located with raw food handling, and that delis may not always turn over some items fast enough, so you never quite know how long that hunk of bologna has been in there.

Well, there goes another 100 years of people doing something that should have killed them, and yet, it didn't.

I just bought a pound of Boar's Head low sodium ham and a half pound of Swiss cheese at the deli counter. Wish me luck, that I might survive another week.

Hey…we were just talking about this, and yesterday, this article popped up in my feed:

90% of Listeria Cases Stem From One Grocery Store Item

Spoiler alert…it’s deli-sliced lunchmeat.
