I imagine you buy these cheap as chips from your markets? Wouldn't be worth growing would it??
I don't know what they are worth here.??

Those were A$5.80/kg because they are specialist (the normal Thai markets don't sell them). There is just over half kilo there. The Thai hot chillis are between A$3.00 and A$4.00/kg in the markets.

The exchange rate for NZ$ is not much different than A$.

Extra early prep for a recipe I will make in two months or so, if I don’t kill these plants before then. I also bought a Thai basil plant. We spent the afternoon at a nursery, something I would’ve thought of as boring before.

I felt like a pauper after today - that hunk of rib roast, just two ribs, so a bit over 3lbs...nearly $70US! It's our anniversary tomorrow, though, so that's ok, and you know you can trust the butcher when you ask for a three-rib roast, and he first tries to talk you into a cheaper cut of meat, and then asks how many you're feeding, and talks you into just two ribs. That's money out of his pocket.

Here's where we went:

I'm using this one:

Prime Rib Roast Recipe

The reason is because while it's resting, I can use that time to do the roast potatoes and the pud. Used to, going the traditional way, it was either cold meat or cold potatoes.

Today's groceries:
Milk
Buffalo mozzarella
Cream cheese
Soy yoghurt
Nectarines
Mango
Carrots
Sprouts
Zuchini
Cucumber
Mushrooms
Potatoes
Bread
Honey
Sambal badjak
Krupuk
Coconut cream
5 spice powder
Potato chips
Cinnamon tea biscuits
Rusk (kids)
Garlic sauce in a bottle (kids)
Applesauce (kids)
Hotdogs (kids)

I love it when I learn new things! Had to look those up.

Oh sambal is a real Indonesian staple. Many families have their own recipe, but there is really good quality ready made sambal for sale here so I usually buy it.

And I am cooking a fancy Indonesian meal tonight so Krupuk is an essential side. Think you know them as prawn crackers?
