Never seen inside one before so I'd never have guessed!

As @rascal says, you need to remove the cooking bowl to see the temperature sensor. I always remove the bowl to rinse/soak the rice and later to wash the bowl.

The temperature sensor is spring mounted to ensure continuous mechanical contact with the bowl.

My daughter does the exact same thing Yorky, she makes great rice. I'm not allowed to make it. But I do clean up so that's why I knew I had seen it. Good item to choose!!!
