Artichokes

I peeled and trimmed, trimmed and peeled, and…then I had a pile of peels and trimmings and nothing left in my hand!
I have to admit they're a bit of a PITA to prepare, and take quite a bit of patience (ie. a whole shovel load) to get them right.
At one stage, about 15 years ago, I had 3 or 4 artichoke "amuse bouche" on my catering list, including bacon-wrapped artichoke hearts.
Then someone asked for 100 portions, so I had to peel, prepare and cook about 20 kilos of the damned hairy things.
After that, I reserved the bacon-wrapped delights for family reunions - no more than 6 people

Or you can just cheat

Yes you can. A kg of artichokes over here costs about $4 - 5, and I'd probably get 6 or 7 from that.
can you give Ocado a ring and ask if they deliver to Caracas?
I can just enter the delivery address into the website, they have delivery slots available from tomorrow evening :laugh::laugh:

I've never tried an artichoke and dont plan on trying them. Ever.

Sad - they are absolutely delicious and in fact are in my top 5 favourite vegetables.

Down here we pull off the leaves and dip in butter then scoop it off with your teeth.

Yes, that is how I eat them usually. And finally the prize at the the end - the fond d'artichoke. In France they are often served this way.

Incidentally, rather than boiling them you can microwave them in a fraction of the time.

I love artichokes - I’ve tried preparing them from whole twice, and each time, I peeled and trimmed, trimmed and peeled, and…then I had a pile of peels and trimmings and nothing left in my hand!
You take the very bottom row off and cut a quarter inch from the top.

Not sad, just someone else's opinion and future opinion.
We're all different.

Possibly if it had a sauce like bearnaise or hollandaise? I dont know which, Morning Glory will know???
I really dont know..I've seen it prepared on tv at some stage??

Russ
I would dip the leaves in either of those or a lemon garlic butter. The hearts cooked and sauteed with crab and asparagus over pasta in a white wine butter sauce. Yummy. I think you'd like it very much.
