Cryptic food and drink

So I'm guess stew is the word indicating the anagram? But where did that leave me for the rest. Head indicates to take the first letter of which word because the is no 5 lettered word in that clue... Guessing that I take the letter g from garlic butdoes that leave me with the letter g or 5 letters arlic that I need to add another letter to?
Its all very logical. If the clue says head of garlic, then it means the letter 'g' is in the answer. I could just as well have said 'head of grouse' or head of 'goose'. Its only the 'g' you use so ignore the rest of the letters in 'garlic'. So you are then looking for 5 more letters to make a word meaning ' a stew'. So what are we left with?
Foolishly (that indicates an anagram) eat (head of garlic = g) in, a stew (stew indicates the meaning of the solution).

Not seeing it...'eggheads' suggests e + e, but I can't see nine letters. 'Line dance ' is already nine and l + dance leaves you short of a letter if you have two E's or e + g.

Perhaps I haven't had enough E's.
Number of egg heads correct. Crazy is not the anagram indicator. There is a literary clue in the final sentence.

Morning Glory, I interrupt to ask if this is what is taking you away from The Challenge? Clearly you and Duck59 have a challenge of another kind going on here.

Ah, I see. Professor Pedanticus might observe that there is no anagram of 'line' as those letters are not jumbled, but in order with an 'e' inserted.

But it doesn't take much to make the Prof 'mad.'

I feel it only reasonable to point out that this is open to everybody. It's just that the number of participants seems to be a bit limited.

So if it had read 'eggheads in crazy line' would that have been more correct?
