Cryptic food and drink

So what do you have to do to enter? Just submit a clue? Do you have an example of a winning clue?

I'll gr(apple) with that one.

Azed: there is a "normal" prize crossword every Sunday and one "competition" puzzle every month where one clue is given with a definition and no cryptic, so solvers have to submit a clue. There are also a few other competition puzzles that usually involve having to change letters in the answers or some such jiggery-pokery. The "citrus" clue I sent in was for one such crossword where ten letters in the puzzle were "wrong" because the letters from intersecting answers did not match.

One thing that gets my goat (who is a tetchy fellow) is that you're not supposed to enter into correspondence, yet on Azed's site, he's forever going on about stuff that his friends send him and tell him. The number of times you see "my friend Don Manley sent me this" or "my friend Don Manley said to me over lunch" gives the game away a bit. Not, of course, that this Don Manley would be in any way related to the DF Manley who wins the competition puzzles on a regular basis. Nothing against the fellow, but he is a professional compiler and clearly very good, but it all smacks of a cozy little clique.

End of rant.

Oh well, I guess the above must be a crap anagram and doesn't follow the rules or something as no-one has attempted it.

Try this one:
For condiment, stew sour cherries. Excellent recipe!. (14, 5)

It wasn't that...just "disabled" for a while.

Talking of salads:

Give S Cowell a thrashing and take a light lunch (8)

I replied to this just after you posted it but must have hit the wrong button as my reply isn't here!

I don't like the stuff myself - although I do like cabbage!

Any luck with my anagrams - I'm sure you solved them days ago!

I should think that there are more than enough clues in this thread to compile a crossword, though whether they would fit at intersections is another matter.
Not much point in us doing it though as we know all the answers and no-one else here can do cryptic clues. Funny really...

I like them in curries..

I have never ever heard of putting them in curries! I'm sure it wouldn't be authentic as I'm quite familiar with Indian cooking and I've never seen it mentioned. That isn't to say it wouldn't work of course. I'm going off to investigate..
