Cryptic food and drink

Today's Guardian crossword (Paul) has a whole heap of clues involving fruit. I thought it was quite an easy one today. What I often find with Paul crosswords is that you spend half an hour seemingly getting nowhere and then it all begins to fall into place, but this morning's puzzle was rattled off in no time.

Here's a really easy pair from today's crossword:
Sounds like fruit is up to date (7)
Longest bananas covering a fruit (8)

Its rather late (or stupidly early, depending on how you look at it) but I'm not finding these as easy as you say. :(

I'm not sure that any clue is easy at quarter to two in the morning. I suppose, though, that any clue that one gets straight away appears to be easy, so it's a decidedly subjective science.

I ended up with hardly any sleep as I had to get up to take my daughter to work (no buses that early on Sunday). Consequently, I'm not feeling any brighter today! But don't give me any hints yet.
