Cryptic food and drink

'Bits and pieces' is a term used in cryptic crosswords for those odd letters left over when creating clues with an anagram - usually one or two odd letters.

Oh, fine - I looked at the link, thanks - not sure that I'm any the wiser, but hey - I'll struggle on (and try and ignore all the red herrings that you've strewn in my path). Back to the clue ...

Dunno why your confused. You use the device in your clues. Its like duck = 'o' or small American state = 'ct'. So drug = ?

The 'bits and pieces' part of the latest clue is only one letter. The rest is a simple anagram which as you must know, is a spice. Or possibly a fruit which we think of as a vegetable. :)
