Getting out of a cooking funk

That sounds tiring. To be honest I had no idea paprika was that popular in Austria?

Well, I suppose Austria is right next to Hungary which is famed for its paprika. And I can vouch that true Hungarian paprika is wonderful. It has a fruity dimension that other paprika I've tasted doesn't have. I'm talking about unsmoked here.

I'll second that. My son came back from a trip to Hungary and brought me some. Way, way different from the Spanish versions.

Hungarian paprika ( I want to try the original now😃) and Hungarian Goulash are definitely legendary. I absolutely love Goulash in every variation. It is immensely popular here too. And I love paprika (sweet, powder) in small quantities in many sauces, but not all food.

I was merely surprised that all dishes and store food were overwhelmed by paprika in Austria. It is not the usual association I have with Austrian food.

Sorry to hear it was such a dissapointment.

I think Semmelknoedel, Tafelspitz, the traditional potato salad, some clear vegetable soups, some creamy soups, Kaesespaetzle, ...Schnitzel...to be very streamlined, not overly spicy, and also not overusing even mild sweet paprika ...but I might be wrong. Did Google some, I donno...maybe it's time for me to travel abroad again😄

And the stores, even the smallest ones, I'd expect to have plain chips, peanuts with salt only...but again I am surely wrong...

Maybe it was the " Paprika Week Festival"😃

Speak of the tajin:

See, it’s all over that fruit (and some vegetables, too)!

There are a surprisingly variety of tajin seasoned snacks, too. But, I’d rather season things myself.

I went through this several months ago. It became a chore. Come home after working a ten hour day. Shower and cook. Then one weekend I was watching a cooking show and I thought I’ve got time today to make that. Between makingi got some different and being on a weekend when I wasn’t rushed I got inspired. Since I’ve retired 5 months ago I have been working on improving my cooking skills and have made some great meals because I am not in a rush. I made steak au poive before. But a week or so ago I stepped up my game when I made it. And it paid off.

Quite often I feel I don't have enough 'caring energy' or chi energy for cooking left, if caregiving for my family circle drains it out.
Do you also link those two?

I do find that sometimes as I'm constantly in care mode with my partner (dementia). I cook every day but nothing special - simple meals for him, really. He will eat anything so I could cook gourmet stuff (and do sometimes, for the CookingBites Challenge) but often I opt for easy.

I think everyone has days when they either can't be bothered or are just not inspired to cook. It's perfectly normal.
I've just come off 3 days cooking from 8.30 - 5 with a kitchen brigade, so it's cooking all day long, tasting, re-tasting and probably grab a sandwich or something (Saturday I only ate a hot dog, and probably the worst ever :hyper:) . You'd have thought that Sunday, I would have done something really nice, especially since some friends invited themselves for lunch:laugh:.
I took out some olives, fried some already-cooked potatoes with a leftover chorizo, made some bruschettas with tomato and goat cheese ( from the fridge), re-plated last week's hummus and pulled some pakoras from the freezer and served it with a lemon pickle. Total prep time - 30 minutes. I'd eaten all those things in the previous 5 days.
At home sometimes, when wife and son are here, we'll just whip up a pasta with tomato sauce. 30 minutes max.

I’m definitely in a cooking funk.
I’m hoping some nice wings tomoz will break it but at the moment I write the menu and put the food order in to then find myself editing it before the cut of time based on whats on there will take the least amount of time and hassle to cook!

Heyho, these things tend to pass don’t they!
