Hungarian paprika ( I want to try the original now
) and Hungarian Goulash are definitely legendary. I absolutely love Goulash in every variation. It is immensely popular here too. And I love paprika (sweet, powder) in small quantities in many sauces, but not all food.
I was merely surprised that all dishes and store food were overwhelmed by paprika in Austria. It is not the usual association I have with Austrian food.
Sorry to hear it was such a dissapointment.
I think Semmelknoedel, Tafelspitz, the traditional potato salad, some clear vegetable soups, some creamy soups, Kaesespaetzle, ...Schnitzel...to be very streamlined, not overly spicy, and also not overusing even mild sweet paprika ...but I might be wrong. Did Google some, I donno...maybe it's time for me to travel abroad again
And the stores, even the smallest ones, I'd expect to have plain chips, peanuts with salt only...but again I am surely wrong...
Maybe it was the " Paprika Week Festival"
