I am reposting here the question I asked a few days ago in another thread, namely:

Anyone knows where it comes from?

I am always very fascinated and interested in idioms/ways of saying and this is one of them. Where will it come from?

I'm slowly learning that certain silences communicate perfectly in all kinds of languages. How many things you understand. I always arrive a bit later to get these kind of things. However, better late than never.

...and now that I think about it, my first dog when I was a kid was also named Shag.

And then there's this guy:

I didn't realize until just now that the full name of the character is Shaggy Rogers. With a name like that, he's definitely doubling-down on the British slang, eh?

I see that the "phrases" site lists that old favourite "Cheap at half the price." This has always struck me as sublimely stupid. After all, if something is half the price, then it's going to be cheap, relatively at least.
