How is the corona virus affecting you?

Kent is now in the new tier 4, the most severe restrictions. This means no Christmas visiting indoors at all. Not a problem for me as I'd already decided it was too risky. But there are going to be lots of upset people who had planned a Christmas get together.

The main reason is a new variant of Covid, mainly in Kent, London and parts of Essex which seems to spread more easily and quickly. There is no evidence its any more serious if its contracted.

That is the cover story. This has been known for a while, the real reason is that the 'R' rate is approaching 1.2, and hospitals are 90% full. The Boris plan has not been working, and his PR stunt to save Christmas has been shown to be sheer madness. He now conveniently has a mutant strain to blame for changing the rules.

So tonight my oldest stepdaughter had a birthday party for her baby who turned 1 year old...with 20 people invited...at a restaurant in a small private room with poor ventilation. I was disgusted and refused to participate. My husband joined a Facetime call to see the baby play with her birthday cake (she stuck her fingers in it apparently and then lost interest immediately). Two people out of the 20 who attended were wearing a mask while they sang, "Happy Birthday," to the baby, who will never remember this and had no idea what was going on. Idiots. And as far as my stepdaughter's real mom and her new husband, plus my stepdaughter's partner's parents, shame on them for not standing up and saying, "No, this is a bad idea." Shame on them all for going, and then not bothering to wear masks. Oh, and to make it worse, my stepdaughter and her partner had some friends who flew in from Texas yesterday with their child that are staying the weekend with them. Super spreader event. I am livid. I don't know if I can even bring myself to talk to her without telling her off about this. But, I hope and pray none of them get the virus or have spread it to others at that restaurant.

"Thailand reported over 500 cases of coronavirus from the centre of its seafood industry where there are many migrant workers on Saturday, in by far the biggest one-day rise in a country that had previously brought the epidemic largely under control."

The people who make the decision who gets the vaccine first should be treated with admiration for stepping up to do such a f'ing awful task. Where would you place the Terminally ill in the hierarchy of need ?

I suspect that has more to do with the working environment. It is the same in the UK. By their very nature, food processing plants are sealed, usually over-crowded environments - perfect conditions for virus transmission.

That wouldn't be a factor in my calculations.

A big roadblock to a stimulus plan that would help people in the US get some extra money to get by during the pandemic is an insistance by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his party that a "Liability Ban" be included in the bill. The liability ban would prevent workers from suing their employer if the employer doesn't provide a Covid-19 safe workplace, and they start getting sick and dying. It is mainly aimed at the meat packing industry. The big meat packing corporations want to be free to line up low wage workers elbow to elbow with minimal protections, and not get sued if when they get sick, and some of them die. Many of these workers are immigrants, so they are expendable.

I'm surprised the restaurant allowed all this to happen. Restaurants that are allowed to open here have extremely strict Covid regulations in place. Not that any have been open in Kent for a long time. If it was my daughter I'd be more than livid. You made your point by not attending.

That is shocking. Mitch McConnell is a piece of work, isn't he?

I just watched the disgraceful scenes at train stations in London last night as people tried to escape the lock down. This new mutant strain spreads like a wild fire and these people want to infect the rest of the country.

She works there. Our governor in Ohio issued a mandate in July limiting gatherings tp no more than 10 people. That has not changed. She and the owners are fully aware it's a direct violation but apparently did not care.

Yeah, did you see the article last week about the firing of 7 managers at a Tyson meat packing plant? They apparently had a betting pool going to see how many workers would get infected with Covid-19. Disgraceful.
