How is the corona virus affecting you?

Was there ever a more pertinent time to say, "Be careful what you wish for"? We - well, the voters, not this household - voted for a "good time" Prime Minister who saw only runaway success for a Brexit he didn't remotely believe in four years ago. Now, he's been clobbered, both literally and metaphorically, by an invisible little nasty. His offhand prognostications about everything being back to normal for Christmas have crashed into the cesspool. As for the other elephant that's stomping about in the room, most of us could have said, "I told you so" months if not years ago. Indeed, many of us did.

I just watched the disgraceful scenes at train stations in London last night as people tried to escape the lock down. This new mutant strain spreads like a wild fire and these people want to infect the rest of the country.
Yep....they should have announced it as effective immediately, it was pretty obvious that people would try to get out before the deadline. Thus rendering the lockdown only partially effective.

My sister lives in London and as I posted before, she was due to come to us for Christmas. We did briefly discuss whether she also wanted to jump on a train but she decided to stay put and follow the rules. I'm proud of her for making the right decision, but also worried how she'll cope.

Mouser good sense must run in your family. It's a pity it's not contagious.

Greetings from Plague Island. The tragically farcical attempts by Bungling Boris to actually get anything right continue. Three thousand trucks are queued up in Kent, with drivers lacking even basic amenities despite the "extensive Brexit preparations". The Salvation Army have been in to help provide emergency provisions. Even with the border now open it is estimated that it will take many days to clear the backlog. Just in time for Brexit to kick in.

57% of NHS trusts have yet to receive their first shipments of vaccine and even Hapless Hancock now admits that the virus is out of control.

Time to bunker down, be sensible and look out for each other.

The train has gone off the rails here, too. Our valiant leader is focused on last ditch efforts to stay in power. Martial Law was even duscussed in a recent meeting with his top advisors. He's lost all interest in Covid-19 -- what little interest he had before was focused on how the virus would effect his political future.

President-elect Biden is considering a national mask mandate, which is really needed, but about 20-percent of Americans are going to blow a gasket if he does. It's the old 80-20 rule -- 80-percent of the noise is created by 20-percent of the people.

My sister is expecting her vaccine sometime in the first two weeks of January. At her hospital, the ER staff will get the first ones. She'll probably be in the second group.

Leaders and celebrity influencers are being recruited to get vaccinated early, too, in order to set an example, and try to move people off the fence about getting the vaccine. We need at least 70-percent participation to get the virus under control.

Update: My sister got her first Covid-19 vaccine shot yesterday. Her arm is quite sore, as expected -- the flu shot can do that. But, no other adverse reactions. She'll get the second shot in a couple of weeks, just AFTER her birthday, so she won't have to deal with any side effects on her birthday. She is getting hers now because she is a first responder -- a hospital RN.
