MrsT wanted to find out if she qualifies for the vaccine. She's 57, but has two preexisting conditions. She sent emails (via their "patient portals" - the only way to reach a doctor) yesterday. Here's a summary of the first exchange (cardiologist):
Hi, I'd like to find out, as a patient of Dr. S, whether I'm eligible to receive the Covid vaccine under the state's preexisting condition guidelines.
We're not giving the vaccine. Please contact your family doctor.
I understand you're not giving the vaccine, I'm asking if my heart condition makes me eligible for the vaccine now, and if so, how I register for that.
We're not giving the vaccine at this time. Individuals 80 and over are eligible, as well as people with certain preexisting conditions.
Right, thanks. That's what I'm trying to find out from you. Does my preexisting heart condition qualify me for the vaccine now?
As stated earlier, we do not administer the vaccine in this office at this time. Please contact your family doctor for more information. We do recommend to our patients 80 and over, and those with certain preexisting conditions, to have the vaccine.
That's what I'm trying to find out from you, whether I'm eligible now.
Are you 80 or over?
No, but I have a heart condition that Dr. S. treats me for.
You probably qualify.
How do I register for that?
We do not give the vaccine in this office at this time. Please talk to your family doctor for more information. Thanks.
No wonder people are frustrated!
