How is the corona virus affecting you?

With more people ordering carry-out (takeaway) in the States, we have a new problem:

Ketchup shortage hits restaurants across the United States

I have embraced the idea of using things other than ketchup on my fries, so this isn't an issue with me, but I know people who will find this to be problematic. Ms. Late Night, for one, likes to use a 1:1 ketchup:fries ratio (and I'm probably being a bit generous here...she would happily use more ketchup).

I saw that last night. It is only the ketchup packets that come with take-out that are in short supply. Mrs. Late Night can still get her ketchup fix at the grocery store.

The Texas Rangers welcomed a crowd of at least 38,000 fans to Globe Life Field in Arlington Monday for the team's home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rangers are the only Major League Baseball team allowing full capacity seating at their ballpark, thanks in part to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott doing away with mask restrictions last month and allowing businesses to open at 100% capacity.

This is the crowd in Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers opening day. Crowds were limited to 20% capacity; they had a sellout crowd of 8000.

Then again, the Tigers have been really bad the last few years, and other than opening day, they might not have drawn much of a crowd (they drew 18,767 on average in 2019). But, it's encouraging to see how we might be able to go back to the ballpark safely. I don't see the Rangers backing down from their "let's pretend there's no such thing as COVID" plan.

The education minister announced yesterday kids 5-8th grade and high school kids (1-3rd y) will school online starting Monday 12th Apr.

So my kid will learn online.

For me teaching, probably in person.

Our govt has decided to permanently cancel Astrazenaca for under 60s. What this means for people in at risk groups who would get it is not explained. All we know is we will get either pfizer or another vaccine, but nobody knows when. So basically those younger people who are most at risk have now been pushed way back the line to the time their own age group gets vaccinated.
That means I likely won't be given anything before summer, while pandemic numbers keep rising. I made it this far, I really hope not to trip before the finish line.

Our government is suspending the Astrazeneca vaccine for people under 60 as well. Funny thing is, just yesterday I was reading a study by the Cambridge University, 20-29 years is the only age group where the potential risks of taking the Astrazeneca vaccine aren't bigger than the potential benefits. I guess that since these are all new medications we don't know enough about potential risks yet. For reference, the study is here Winton Centre Cambridge

They're not suspending it here, they're cancelling. It's already decided.

I presume the student being tested - that is, if they live with or have had recent contact with their mother.
Well the student lives with her mother and father, as she is a minor. The mother texted me this morning that the student has no symptoms and they (docs) are not willing to send the student to get tested.
I took an extra 1500 mg of vitamin C to the usual 500 mg and am hoping masks are effective and the student did not get it from her mother.
I felt p+++++ off to why they did not tell me that the mother is getting tested yesterday. We would have canceled the lesson.
i am an idiot. This was not an obligatory lesson, it was during the break. it is not paid. Ok headmaster had encouraged to work through the break.
