How is the corona virus affecting you?

I was pleased that my gardener was prepared to come today. Whether he should technically be doing it under lockdown I'm not sure, as he is not 'formally employed' by me so to speak. But I suppose it could be regarded as his permitted exercise for the day. I spoke to him from a more than 2 metre distance and he accessed the garden through a 'right of way' path via the neighbours garden (so despite the fact I'm in a terraced house there is no need to walk through the house to get the the rear garden). At any rate, it means I have the lawn mown and everything is tidy and weeded.

Restrictions here started to be lifted yesterday (1st May).

It is now legal for my parents to visit us. 2 adults can travel together and visit another household...

Yippee. So nothing has changed for me as you can tell.
My parents still remain stranded here. We're now sorting visas out. Then Medicare, then more medication for my step father and possibly an Aussie bank account for him to get Medicare refunds paid into.

Life is still very busy and very stressful for me.

We're due -1°C here on Monday morning. Yesterday was 2°C, today was double that at 4°C but the wind chill makes up for any warmth... so it is damp (as in 80mm in the last 48hrs damp), cold and exceptionally windy here.

But I have ½hr to get ready to go out (essential shopping for my parents to keep them warm, but they can't afford it, so we're buying it) so i must once again say goodbye after an all too brief visit.

Btw, it's world naked gardening day today. I'm not participating. Today you won't get me in the garden fully clothed because it's too darn cold, wet and windy, so forget* the idea of doing it naked!

*I would have phrased that differently, but it wouldn't be child friendly, or polite!

I'm just getting tired of all the conflicting information. We were going to get takeaway for the first time in nearly two months, so this afternoon, I started chasing down latest takeaway coronavirus guidelines and found they were all contradictory.

Microwave your food...don't microwave your food...don't order food with anything fresh/uncooked on it (like lettuce)...do order food with fresh stuff, but remove the fresh stuff, wash it, then put it back on your food...and so forth.

I gave up and made a salad. 😒

My lawn guy txt me Monday the day of dropping level 4 back to 3. He came and mowed, everyone here was out walking while I was on the computer. Paid by phone and didn't even see him. Nice tidy yard now.

I think it is a matter of knowing your restaurants. If you go to a place you know well, and know the place to be clean (take a look at the restroom), I think you can be pretty sure they are using masks, gloves, and washing hands a lot.

Even before Covid-19, there were lots of ways to get sick from restaurant/take-out food. Using good hygiene measures should be second-nature for kitchen staffs.

True what you say, there are joints here I wouldn't have a drink from, let alone a meal. I was saying at the dinner table a week or so ago about how we are having awesome meals every night because daughter and I are both good cooks. Mr7 commented it's like eating good food every night. He loves my southern fried chicken, my chips, my garlic bread, daughters pop corn chicken, tortillas and wraps. I'm loving them as well. We are lucky, one of my daughters friends is new to Chch and doesn't know many people. She's in a bubble of 1 , plus my daughter. Imagine eating alone every night in lock down?

The guideline about food here is simple, the virus can't live on food. Just cook and eat normally.

Maybe this helps?

As for restaurants, they are required to wear gloves and hair nets and such.

Thanks. Yeah, I've read that advice here, and they'll say something like "If the guy making your burger is sick, it'll be ok, because the chances of the virus getting on the burger and surviving the cooking process are virtually zero."

Then it very helpfully adds something like, "However, if the person who is packaging your burger is sick and coughs on it before putting it in the container, that's potentially a problem."

WebMD (I think) was also advising to get only cooked foods for takeout, not any salads, and burgers and sandwiches here almost always come with lettuce/tomato/onion by default, even if you specifically ask to have it left off, they'll still throw it in there.

Maybe we'll try it again tonight. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Our local chippie is working with Delivaroo, so far no one has complained about late delivery/cold food etc..others takeaways are open for collections so bit by bit things are changing apart from the chinese takeaway they remain closed. We haven't used any as we don't normally but I think maybe we should to help these little places continue to trade.

Makro packed this morning. First day selling booze for 1 month and first time the village shops have been able to stock up. My wife bought the last 8 cases of Archa which is good.

[Edit: She thought that she'd bought the last 8 cases but then they restocked the shelves. She bought 2 more].
