Christmas:
Well, my tree is up - only a 3.5 foot one this year, and so I'm selecting through the ornaments for blue, gold, silver, and white/translucent ones (the lights this year are white). I have a set of blue and silver moon and stars thematics to use, but haven't found all of them yet. The two rooster ornaments also went up. Well, because. (I am debating putting the pizza slice up.)
The Holiday Village is on the mantle. This year I ordered some people to wander through the scenario. I ordered an ice fishing shack with a couple of fishermen which should arrive this week, and I'll work that in. I'll take a photo when that gets incorporated.
I still have to run the outdoor lights. But the winter scene bird-dominated door mat just arrived, so it's time to remove the pumpkin doormat!
As far as food goes, I will be making Greek Christmas cookies this week. Never made them before, but it is part of my love of Greek cuisine I wanted to try a Greek dessert (and no, it won't EVER be baklava, a ruination of good phyllo!
I always follow along with Dad's adaptation of the Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes for Christmas Eve. Basically, he'd do seven items of sea life (vertebrate or invertebrate), in some form or another that day - we usually had guests as well, so some items were appetizers. Some of the preparations would be Italian, but this was not religiously adhered to - there was always some sashimi, for instance.
So, for me, having seafood on Christmas Eve is akin to needing turkey on Thanksgiving.
As for Christmas day, we never had a traditional meal for that date; it was mostly what Mom and Dad felt like cooking. It would usually be special, a bit more intensive to prepare than regular meals. Or perhaps more expensive sometimes as well. Sometimes we'd be invited elsewhere to dine. We had neighbors for a few years who invited us over for their annual Christmas feast - which was always the same. The baked Brie was delicious but it went downhill from there. Brisket and Brussels sprouts. The woman would bake the brisket for a couple hours or so, and thus it was shoe leather, and the Brussels sprouts were boiled. Mercifully, I have forgotten what dessert was.
So... I have no idea what Christmas dinner will be this year, and this doesn't concern me.
