Not a lot but wanted some white pepper that wasn’t the supermarkets usual dot of pepper for a million pounds!

I get through a lot more white pepper than is satisfied by those tiny jars supermarkets sell. It turns up in Asian cooking all the time and I like it for adding warmth without heat to soups and stews.

Happy with my 700grams for £8
Should keep me going for a bit longer than those daft 30-40gram jars.

Bought Kewpie because I’ve read about it many times over the years but not yet tried it because it says it’s sweeter than normal mayo which I don’t find appealing.
I do enjoy mayo though so time to give it a go!

I go through about 30 grams a month and buy it whole so it's always fresh ground. I've a jar of already ground in case I need more than I'm willing to grind. (I need a better grinder, probably.)

Hmm I might get myself some whole white peppercorns too. I prefer freshly ground spices but it’s usually black peppercorns that I’ll bother to do that for.
How much of a difference does it make?

It has a brighter flavor when fresh ground. Plus, (science minute...), the whole peppercorns have a lot less surface area per unit mass than the powder so it stays fresher for longer. 👍

I was always happy with the dulling of the flavour from ground pepper as I don’t like sharp heat but I then got an electric spice grinder and noticed I was misguided, that the fragrancy that’s lost is worth putting in the effort for.

I found some whole white peppercorns at my local grocer's a month or so ago. I bought them - because they were there, and probably because I haven't used white pepper in over 40 years.
Ground it up in the spice grinder and put it in a jar. WOW! Unbelievably good.
Now I'm going to have to go back and see if there's more

Yeah. White pepper is underrated. i blame Delia Smith...

I don’t have (nor have I ever used) whole white peppercorns, because it’s not called for very often.

I do, however, have a little jar of ground white pepper, from McCormick, and I don’t use it much because it smells exactly like a fart.
