Ah, that explains it, thank you CD. Now I know who to turn to with my petrol related queries . The Gulf brand still seems to feature in motor racing sponsorship over here, but I can't remember the last time I saw a Gulf filling station.

Gulf Oil was bought by Chevron, another US oil company. My dad left after the buyout, and became President of another oil company (bringing some of his best people with him -- their futures were uncertain at Chevron).

The Gulf brand is now used by marketing companies. They are licensing the brand from Chevron. There are some relatively new Gulf gas stations in the US, but they are purely marketing companies. They have no refineries.

Gulf was famous for their racing sponsorships, especially of LeMans cars in the 1960s, first with Porsche, and most notably, Carrol Shelby's GT-40s that swept LeMans in 1966.

A select number of buyers can get a "Heritage Edition" Ford GT today. You have to be chosen by Ford to get one, and there are high expectations for those chosen. A 2019 Heritage Edition sold at auction in Scottsdale for $2.5-million.

I made for me an unusually smart decision when the sub prime disaster hit the UK. I left our pensions in place but liquidated our savings and place them into Government premium bonds. Your capitol sum only decreases with inflation. Each month there is a drawer, the prizes are from £25 to £ 1 million. We regularly win small amounts that have generated a tax free return of now around 5%. Premium Bonds

We also have bonus bonds here, although I think they just closed down. I had about $20k with them (tax thing) for like 15 years, returned about $200. I cashed them in about 10 years ago. My wife questioned the 1% return. As I said I'm not flying in the next 12 months.

I need to go BACK to the DPS office to finally (I hope) get my drivers license renewed -- the one that expired in June. In person renewals require an appointment, and the earliest date I could get was September 28. I went, and was told they need to see my birth certificate. I've had the same Texas DL number since 1977, and my License has the Department of Homeland Security "Real ID" symbol on it, but Texas passed anther "immigrant paranoia" law, so now you have to show a f-ing birth certificate to renew. I didn't have one, so I had to pay fifty bucks to get one from Mount Holly, New Jersey, where I was born. What a PITA. :headshake:

Yea.... head scratcher here, also. Ohio has been issuing my DL for 40+ years and last renewal I had to present birth certificate, marriage license (proof of name change) and either SS card or pay stub. The county charges $5.00 for copy of marriage certificate which they actually had to go to records room and pull a hard copy to make me a copy while another department in the same county charged me $25 to type my name in a computer and hit "print" to provide me a copy of my birth certificate..why the 5x cost difference between two depts ran by the same county government is still an unanswered question.. LOL...

That's weird...both MrsT and I got ours renewed this year (Ohio) and didn't have to do any of that. Well, no name change involved, but still, went in with old license, took the eye test, and got new licenses, no fuss, no muss.

I went out to a local park to lie in the sun and read. Very pleasant but I didn’t stay long. Right now one of the issues with being outside for me is that I don’t trust public bathrooms and someone who drinks as much water and tea as I do can never be too far from a bathroom.

I have to take my MINI in for a check engine light. One of my customers will do the work, so we will just barter the cost. I also need to get my annual State inspection done this month, and they can get that done for me.

Off today, and I'm standing in a nearly deserted shopping mall waiting for "a NY slice."

Just came from Sam's Club.
