Plans for today (2024)

On my way to the airport for a bit of Spanish sunshine before Christmas 😊

My eldest son had a tough time on his uni course and kind of shut down, he became non verbal for the first two years and in the final year when he did speak it was mostly outbursts.

Anyway it appears he's over it and has three years worth of chatting to catch up on because since we got in the car he hasn't paused for breath and that started at 4.40am! 💨 🤣

One of the things I needed to do today was pack my suitcase for tomorrow’s flight. I still can’t get my head around this, no matter how many times it happens:

“You need to pack your suitcase, I’m too busy to do it.”
“No problem, I prefer to pack it anyway. You don’t need to pack it. I’m not a child.”

I proceed to pack my bag in a neat and organized manner (I’m a little fussy, I like things to be shaped the same, so I use a little folding thing that makes most things the same shape, so they’re easier to fit).

“Ok, all done. There’s spare room in there in case you need it.”

<She looks at my compact and efficiently-packed bag, all the shirts here, all the socks there, even edges, nothing crammed, and says…>

“No, no, no, that’s all wrong! Get out of the way! I’ll do it! I should have just done it to begin with!”

Then she repacks it, and it looks more or less the same, except maybe the shirts are over here, and the socks are over there, instead of the other way round.

🤣

Thought about raking the garden borders and paths level and covering with cardboard but that would best be done after it rains. Cardboard will be more malleable and I can tear it instead of cutting it.

Have to rake up some leaves for garlic mulch and keep the weeds out before they get started.

I'd never pack DH's suitcase, nor would he think of packing mine. I pack the majority of the toiletries so he doesn't have to worry about that, just his clothes and shoes. But we both don't know what the other one wants to wear so it seems very odd, packing each other's clothes.

Wrote up a quick menu for Sunday - a friend is having a "skewer" lunch
So we've got:
  • Vietnamese bu nuong xa - tenderloin with a soy/fish sauce/lime/brown sugar/chile dipping sauce
  • Indonesian chicken satay (with peanut dipping sauce)
  • Indian chicken tikka - not sure whether to go for a yoghurt chutney or a tomato-based sauce
  • Indonesian pork skewers with ketjap manis
  • Mexican style king prawns with tequila, lime and, possibly, a pineapple salsa
  • Rudjak as a salad dish
Apart from that, I've got nothing else to do today.

Can I come ?

I have to pick up a grocery order at 3. That's the extent of my day. I really am not happy about having to leave the house but at least I don't have to get out of my car (it's way too cold out today--about 34F/1C). Maybe I can talk DH into going to pick them up. After all, I ordered and paid for them with my money, so it's only fair, right?

How is it warmer there than where I am? It’s 31F with a 21F windchill. 🥶

It was 19°F this AM... :cold:

And that's the reason all we've done is talk about moving north. Craig was even complaining about it being cold mid morning today.

But I love spring, summer, and fall here. There are days in the summer where we see a high of low-to-mid 70s, so nice! Every rare once in awhile we get summer temps for a day or two of above 95. Doesn't happen that often.
