Plans for today (2024)

Last year, I took a full 3 weeks off work around the holidays, and then I worked on cleaning up/decluttering an area of my house each day (you know all the little clutter corners where you become blind to the mess). I felt very accomplished by the end of the vacation, and my house looked much better.

This year I wanted to do something similar, but lf course covid ruined my plans. Today I decided to try to get back to it and clean off one of my kitchen cupboard shelves, as it occurred to me that I only use a couple of items on that shelf.

I found a bunch of old expired stuff I forgot I had, plus some old dishes and things (I’d forgotten about those sugar bowls!). So I tossed all the expired food, cleaned the dishes, and put everything back in a way that hopefully makes sense.

It wore me out though - I am definitely experiencing some post-covid fatigue.

I have no plans - for today or any day. I retired on April 1 this year, and I find I don't know what to do with my time. It's a HUGE adjustment. I still do stuff - basic housekeeping, piano lessons, a little bit of charity work and some social activities. But it's weird to get up in the morning, day after day, and have no plans.

My advice to y'all- don't retire until absolutely necessary!

Many of us here are retired already...I've got a part time gig worker after-retirement job to get out of the house and make a little side money but otherwise I love sleeping, cooking, puttering, and...sleeping lololol!

My plans are for tomorrow. It's a 5am start tomorrow morning, so the preparation is under way.

I've made the pikelets, I've picked the raspberries. We've done what was needed with the chooks. The mango is defrosting, the passion fruit have been ??? Actually I don't think I know what the word is. I cut the top off like a soft boiled egg, and scooped out the flesh and juice.

The annual car pass for the reservation has been bought (a whole £20 annual cost for any of our vehicles).

In the morning the hot water will be put into the flask, the pikelets warmed put into a soup flask and the picnic stuff is ready to go.

Breakfast with the platypus is almost ready. I just hope the reservation made its way to them.

All that is left is for tomorrow to arrive!

Waiting for the food delivery to turn up and enjoying some peace and quiet as the boys have both returned to their lair in anticipation New Year’s Eve high jinx with their mates.
Think as I have prepared wings and fries (to a Brit that means skinny chips) arriving I’ll be doing almost zero cooking today. How exciting 😂

Got a PS5 for Crimbo so I might play Lego Indiana Jones later. Turns out I’m atrocious and playing games but I do love a bit of regression 🤣

Sounds like do a whole lot more than I do!

Work (which should be a light day), laundry, make a pumpkin pie for tomorrow, then it’s fondue for tonight.

Retirement…I’m right at two years away (depending on how the next two years go, of course), and yeah, it’ll be:

That’s me, out the door!

All you need to do is have a plan or a routine, or both. set up a little business, take a decision to do regular exercise, write a book, become a consultant, help with a charity, or whatever tickles your fancy!
What you do NOT want to do is sit around all day wondering what to do; I had that during the first month of Covid and I probably would have driven myself (and the dog!) nuts. Come up with a plan. It doesn't need to be mind-blowing.

I'm just about to run down to the bakery to get some fresh bread, then zoom past the supermarket to pick up a couple of bottles of wine; after which I will fly back home , make the final dish for tonight (grilled courgette with marinated mozzarella) and buzz around the kitchen to clean up.
Should take about 3 minutes at that speed...:hyper::hyper::D:D

Find a hobby. I have had an on and off interest in dollhouse miniatures and dolls since I was a very young girl and saw a gorgeous, huge dollhouse that had a room of its own in the maker's home. It sat on a pedestal table in the middle of the room. He was a master carpenter and made fine custom furniture. His wife wanted a dollhouse, so he made her one, and what a dollhouse it was. I've finished a princess napping in a bed with her pet dragon, a bazaar with a young couple of mystery manning it, and a Venetian Carnivale with a fully dressed couple.

I did get to the shops :)
Everything is already packed away.
I got termidan to treat my fence poles, tek screws, petrol, oil, meat for me, meat bones for my dogs (about 10 kg at 40 dollar cents per kg :hyper:)
Tonic, beer, tea & a bottle of wine.
Yoghurt, rice, tomatoes & cucumber.
And mieliemeal.

I'm going to a lodge nearby tonight, hopefully it will be fun and not break the bank
