Plans for today (2025)

Today I participated in a Holi festival; that's an Indian festival celebrating colours, love and spring.
I'd submitted an estimate for food about a month ago. 2 weeks ago, they said the estimate had been approved, but then last Friday , I decided to check and just pay them a visit. Hmmm - " we're happy to have you here but we haven't got any money left in our budget to pay you"
Oh-oh - typical, perhaps, Venezuelan situation. I decided to participate anyway, because it was an opportunity to make a few $$, one way or another.
Made some Indian snacks which I decided to give away, rather than sell, and take a load of chutneys, hot Indian pickles, curry powder and garam masala to sell.
1) Sold plenty. 2) Made some new contacts. 3) Had a great afternoon.
As Michael Caine once said "when you face a difficulty, turn it around to your advantage".

No seasick land boats, comfortable, fuel efficient...that're some of the requirements, yes?
You have no idea. MrsT is an exhaustive researcher with anything, but especially anything that costs this much, so reliability, price, fuel efficiency…that’s just the start.

It moves on to obvious things like comfort, visibility, how it drives, but soon gets into things like…”This steering wheel is…I don’t know, it’s just too…round,” to “This armrest, which I’ll never use, is too long/short,” to “I don’t like the floor mats,” to “I don’t like his attitude <the salesperson>,” and on and on.

She almost makes me feel bad for the sales people - if there’s even the slightest hint of them trying to push a car on her, forget it: “I’m not working with them, too high pressure!” but if they don’t show any interest at all, then it’s, “I’m not working with them, they sure don’t act like they want my business!”

She’s currently torturing one salesman, because he committed the cardinal sin of contacting her during her work conference, after she told him twice not to contact her, as she was away for work, so now, she’s dangling some interest in front of him, getting him all worked up, and then snatching it back, only to wait and then start all over again.

Which dealership are you at now?

Which dealership are you at now?
It’s coming down to a VW or a Toyota. She likes the styling of the VW, but there are real concerns around reliability and cost of repairs, as well as this being the first year of a new engine and powertrain - one is risky enough, but both is really asking for trouble.

The Toyota is the boring-but-safe choice, but it’s harder to get the one she wants. Between three Toyota dealers, the soonest she could get the one she’s interested in is mid-May, where the VW, she could drive away tomorrow with it.

She still has to drive the Toyota, we’re doing that this week, so that could eliminate the Toyota right there - if she doesn’t like driving it, it’ll be the VW.

Yes, VWs are expensive to maintain, even just for the oil changes. Here's to hoping she likes the Toyota!

I've got a VW. 2008 model spacefox. It has been absolutely marvellous. Yes, the spare parts are a little expensive; but when did car parts ever work out cheap?
I also had a Toyota. Magnificent.
Whichever one you choose, you'll have yourself a good ride.

We had an electric VW bus come through the auction last week and it was wholesaling at 80K! I think it was the ID.Buzz. Pricey boxes those VW's.

They have several on the lot here, the least expensive one being about $70K. Word is, they’re a fun novelty if you have the spare change lying around, but not very practical or comfortable.
