Plans for today (2025)

They have several on the lot here, the least expensive one being about $70K. Word is, they’re a fun novelty if you have the spare change lying around, but not very practical or comfortable.
Agreed. Way back in another life in Santa Cruz CA I had a late 60's model VW bus I was living in. It was alright given my lifestyle at the time and I think I only paid $500 for it.

I had a friend who had a Saab that was always breaking down. It was a nice looking car but my friend was always broke (and the car often was too). Always a "sob" story going on with that one.
My sister had one as well. Seemed to sit in her driveway more than she sat in it. Has a 2016 Ford Probe I think now with 380K+ miles on it and going strong.

That's a lot of miles! Usually Asian car makes go amazingly high but for an American made car (not trucks) that's pretty amazing.

All about the maintenance!
My husband's 2011 Silverado isn't exactly well cared for but that beast won't quit. He was an insurance adjustor (hurricanes and such) and has driven her to Florida, Texas, Louisiana, the Carolinas (we also took her there on vacation), and all over Ohio, so she has well over 300k.

My F150 is an '06 and there are a *lot* of things that don't work anymore but it's safe to drive, the AC/heat works, and the sunroof still goes up and down. 👍

We loved the look of the early-90’s Saabs, before the GM-influenced uglification/redesign, but when we test drove one (1992), it was like sliding into the cockpit of a jet - very tight and very cramped - ended up with a Volvo that had seats like a plush sofa (including the front seat, which was a split bench, our favorite configuration, now long gone, except for maybe in a truck).

Those Probes were built on a Mazda 6 platform, so that may have helped.

Sometimes after a few alcoholic beverages my DH will get contemplative and ask me questions like, "What are you dreams and aspirations? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" I hate it when he does that. He doesn't like the answer I give, either.
I have absolutely no patience or tolerance for those types of questions (they actually make me a bit angry!), nor do I have any desire for reminiscing - two things MrsT loves.

…and I’ve managed to repair a wind chime today…and break a second one.

Yeah, it's annoying as hell. If he would reminisce about pleasant stuff more often it wouldn't be as bad, but sometimes it's stuff I'd rather not think about, much less talk about. And as far as the future goes, well I just hope to be alive, healthy, still walking without assistance, and being able to drive.

It's been really windy here last night and this morning, but seems to have calmed down, for now. March winds and all that. The April showers came early, though.

Planning to not plan is planning! 🤣
I'm pretty good at planning for 10 minutes from now, although I have been known to get sidetracked even then. Oh and I'm good planning in advance with special occasions like a dinner party, but I try not to get too specific about the menu because it can vary. I might say "seafood" and leave it at that.

Gotcha, I've thought chicken and ended up with shrimp...

It’s coming down to a VW or a Toyota. She likes the styling of the VW, but there are real concerns around reliability and cost of repairs, as well as this being the first year of a new engine and powertrain - one is risky enough, but both is really asking for trouble.

The Toyota is the boring-but-safe choice, but it’s harder to get the one she wants. Between three Toyota dealers, the soonest she could get the one she’s interested in is mid-May, where the VW, she could drive away tomorrow with it.

She still has to drive the Toyota, we’re doing that this week, so that could eliminate the Toyota right there - if she doesn’t like driving it, it’ll be the VW.
My parents drove Toyotas for years (and still do), and they love them. I learned to drive on my mom’s 94 Camry and my dad’s 91 Tercel.

I currently have a 2014 Prius and I love it. She’s got well over 200,000 km on her (my husband used to have a very long commute) and still going strong. Great on gas, and you can get a surprising amount of stuff in that hatchback (I’ve crammed my bike, a bbq, ikea furniture, and a dresser in there at various times).

Also currently waiting on some electric trucks to come in for work - thankfully we’ve got VINs and build dates now, hopefully our crews like them when they arrive.
