Plans for today (2025)

Icing my husband's newly sprained ankle every 30 minutes. It's a doozy, he's got some torn ligaments I'm certain. He's sleeping kinda but I'll be up most of the night tending to it. Ice pack on right now for 20 minutes, off for 30. Rinse and repeat.
Ohhhh, that's so sweet. My wife wouldn't touch my feet. I get a lady every 3 months to do my nails on my feet. $70 cheap as chips.

I won't clip his nails, lol. Well I would if he asked me but thankfully he does not. But I'm worried about this ankle. It's very swollen and if it's not showing some improvement by Monday we'll need to get get x-rays to rule out fractures. This just happened tonight so not sure the extent of the injury yet. Just need to keep him off it but that's not easy.

If you put ice on it and he didnt jump up and down, it wont be a fracture
A rugby referee told me that. How to spot a fracture. I dont know if it works???

I went to the yearly ' rug market' which is held on the kings birthday on every Dutch city or town. It's a market where you put a rug down and sell whatever is left in your house that you want to get rid of. It's very typical for the Dutch as we're a penny pinching nation.

This is what that looks like. It was 4 streets long this year.

I bought authentic ( Handmade in Italy) labeled Venetian Carnaval masks . Lovely for my costume festival this summer, and definitely very rare! My Italian friend told me these go for a 100 a piece, I payed 10 euros. Great deal!

Last minute jobs and then time to load up the bikes and head off.
Very much hoping my heated grips will be working because even though the forecast is perfect the snow capped mountains always have very icey air that goes straight through you!
Will arrive back home on Friday to do some Blighty jobs then hopefully be heading straight back to Spain 💃

Edit: Have been out to tinker with the bike and am happy to report the heated grips and the satnav charging dock are now working 😊 👏👏👏

Look, he was so drunk I've no idea the extent of the injury. He's sleeping now. When he wakes up and is sober I'll be able to assess the situation better. He couldn't get up after he fell and I don't know if it's because his injury was just that bad (fractiure or bad sprain with torn ligaments) or if he was just too drunk to get footing. He refused to go the ER last night. I'll know more in a few hours.

Sitting in a restaurant right now, then to a plant/flower sale, then groceries.

I swear, MrsT is in a mood - we’ve been up less than 90 minutes and have had six arguments so far…and I started exactly zero of them.

JAS_OH1 - let us know how your hubby is doing. I’m hoping it’s just a sprain.

Thanks, I'm about to start icing again shortly. Didn't get much sleep last night. If it's a sprain it still might need medical attention. It's likely severe torn ligaments at the least. But he's stubborn and hates hospitals. We had a small dinner planned at a cousin's house later. I'm in charge of a few side dishes. I'll still make them and drop off on way to hospital if he changes his mind and decides to get medical attention today.

Hope your day goes better, maybe she'll lighten up after looking at plants.

You're a lovely wife.
I generally wait for complaining to start and have a look. Then if they don't want to listen that's up to them.
I wouldn't have stayed up icing it, you're a better (wo)man than I!

Oh but the complaining started right away. And he's been moaning and groaning ever since except somewhatquiet while sleeping. But that rehabilitative massage therapist in me knows how crucial RICE is (which is why I iced right away) so I'll be getting him crutches and compression bandages this afternoon if we don't go to ER.

He's awake and says no hospital and he's not going to cousin's house for dinner. He also hurt his knee on the other leg, his hip, and his tailbone. He's also refusing crutches so not going to bother buying them. I'm going to run down to cousin's later and eat and hang out for awhile, then bring him food home. I'll need a break from him by late afternoon, lol!

I was thinking being on a foodie forum has messed with your predictive text, then I remembered what rice was an an acronym for 😆

Have you read the latest stuff about icing not being good? I know, I know another bit of research saying "you don't wanna do like that, you wanna do it like this" 🙄
It's an interesting read even if you don't buy into it.

No I haven't read it and I don't buy it. My 10+ years in rehabilitative massage tells me otherwise. I'll Google just for the hell of it though.

Edit: well i read it and I'd agree on the common sense part of it in not overdoing the ice to avoid tissue damage (duh) and using good judgment on how long to treat it (I do 24-48 hours intermittently), or what types of injuries, how badly the area is injured, etc. Eventually I'll do contrast applications alternating heat and ice to flush out toxins but we're a ways to go on that (several days or a week).

Maybe I should have put this in the caregiver's chat.
