I am a native British English speaker and honestly, I have trouble understanding the local English here in Australia.

I've told a few funny stories about the difficulty in understanding another person who (supposedly) speaks the same language in the same country...like just about anywhere in the deep south or in parts of Louisiana it can be challenging.
