Grasp the nettle - to get on and do something you don’t really want to.
We’d say the thing about the bull, and we’d also say, “Bite the bullet.”Maybe along the lines of " Grab the bull by his horns"?

Yeah I don't know that one, but probably have never seen a nettle (I had to google that) in my life, so maybe that's why it isn't a common saying over here. I do believe they are around and apparently have some medicinal properties, but that was all new to me. We do have bulls with horns and there are undoubtedly plenty of bullets over here.We say all of those but grasp the nettle has a little more of a seize the day edge to it.
I can't imagine never having seen a nettle. There's not a person in this country who's childhood doesn't including getting stung by nettles, you probably won't have had to spend your afternoon searching for a dock leaf thenYeah I don't know that one, but probably have never seen a nettle (I had to google that) in my life, so maybe that's why it isn't a common saying over here. Yep, correct, I've heard that one too.Bite the bullet.”
A what? No time to Google right now, LOL. I am getting dressed shortly and then going to finish prepping all the stuff I am taking over to my son-in-law's house to cook paella.I can't imagine never having seen a nettle. Stinging nettles are probably the British equivalent to poison ivy. not the same plant, but similar pain!but probably have never seen a nettle (I had to google that) in my life
A dock leaf is the considered antidote for a nettle sting.A what? No time to Google right now, LOL. I am getting dressed shortly and then going to finish prepping all the stuff I am taking over to my son-in-law's house to cook paella.
You know your gonna step on a nettle for the first time in your life now, right?A what? No time to Google right now, LOL. I am getting dressed shortly and then going to finish prepping all the stuff I am taking over to my son-in-law's house to cook paella.
No! But I'm not going barefoot outside at my age.You know your gonna step on a nettle for the first time in your life now, right?
They’re normally something you brush you hand or arm past without realising until the tingling pain starts. Blackberry picking is one of the usual ways of picking up a few stings.
We used "weegbree" and it did work. Or maybe I just believed it worked and therefor it workedA dock leaf is the considered antidote for a nettle sting.
So you pack your children off to enjoy the great outdoors, they come back with lumpy stinging nettle welts crying and you pack them back off outdoors to search for a dock leaf to rub on the sting.
I never found it worked, I'm sure it's just an old wives tale to distract a whiny child
I’ve had an Australian beer made from nettles.Nettles are quite tasty as well as stingy.
