Shopping lists

When I want to be phone-less but able to call or text in an emergency I use my apple watch. It's too small to bother with or be distracted by but you can still make contact in an emergency, great when you want peace and quiet.

On the shopping list front iphone notes have a fantastic add on to any note of a circle tick list. As you tick an item it drops to the bottom of the list (you have to enable sorting for that bit to work) leaving you to focus on what's left to do.

This is so useful when your shopping because all the items you have in your trolley drop to the bottom and your only looking at what's left to get, no re-reading items you got ages ago.

This is doubly handy if there's two of you shopping and you want to be quick.

You share the list (I usually send it as a text) with whoever you're shopping with so you can split up and your list updates as they tick stuff off too, so you don't have to keep meeting up to see who has what, you can see they've got it because the item has been dropped down, leaving you to move onto the next item.

Mr SSOAP starts at the top of the list and I start at the bottom.
It's fast n works well 👍

My husband rarely will go to the grocery store with me and I am glad for it. On occasion I will have him go in to get cases of water while I get everything else, but I never give him more than a few items to purchase (doesn't need a list for that), which leaves no room for error or for moodiness. He can purchase the water and take it out to the car and wait there while I get the rest. Also I would never take him if I had a long list to shop for. If he had to wait outside longer than it takes him to smoke a cigarette that would be a template for more moodiness, and I am never in the mood myself for that nonsense! He can just stay at home!

Yeah, that's a really handy feature. I just started using it recently.

Ah yes I should say that only happens when we’re in Spain or riding together somewhere, here I get the stuff delivered and mostly Mr SSOAP or the boys go to pick up odds n ends.
I hardly ever go in a supermarket in the UK, when I do it almost feels like an event! 😂

But Mr SSOAP’s huffiness at being in the supermarket with a long list in Spain soon disappeared when he see’s on the list I’ve picked up 10 things and he’s managed just 2 or 3 then he realises he’s got the good end of the bargain! 😆

Since I was yapping about Kroger’s shopping list, here it is in action:

IMG_8974.png

That’s what it looks like as I put stuff on it, and it keeps a count and tally of the cost.

IMG_8975.png

I can hit that little down arrow and expand it, in case I need to see the item, and any available coupons will show there, which I can checkmark to load to my account.

IMG_8977.png

When I get an item, I can checkmark that box to the left, and it’ll drop it down to the very bottom and grey it out, but leave it on the list.

…and now I’m reminded as to why I don’t like doing that with their list - it still counts it in the item count and the cost.

Let’s say I want more bananas tomorrow, and MrsT needs some toothpaste, and I want some beer.

I’d uncheck the bananas, they’d appear back above, then I’d search for beer, add that, and the toothpaste.

To me, that means I’d have three items, for a cost of something $17.39…but the way their list works, it would count everything, even the greyed out completed items. What’s the point of that?

Because of that, I usually just swipe left on an item and remove it completely once I buy it, but that does mean I have to search and add it every time.

Same here. People are a bit funny about the idea of buying everything on line. They usually say 'I like to feel/see what I'm buying'. Well yeah, but do I want to drive, pay for petrol, trek round looking for what I want, load it all in a trolley, then out again at the till, then in again and then out again into the car, then out of car and into the kitchen, then unload it into fridge/ freezer/cupboards just so I can feel some of it? Absolutely not! Its insane. We are doing all the work for the supermarket! And given that a lot of stuff we buy at the supermarket is in packets or is utility stuff like toilet rolls it makes the process even more annoying. I'm not wanting to get touchy feely with toilet rolls or packets of rice.

If I had a good butcher or fishmonger in walking distance I would use them. But I don't. I've rarely had food that is rotten from deliveries. Once in a while yes - but they refund it without question.

I make a list as I think of things I need, often by hand but sometimes on phone, and usually order stuff once or twice a week. That delivery includes wine, spirits etc. The website saves all the stuff I buy regularly in any case.

I do a lot of online shopping and did so even more during the pandemic. However, for meat sales (especially beef), I generally do go in person because I do prefer selecting my own meat. Also some of the stores that offer online shopping require a $35 minimum, so if I only need a few things, I will just pop in and get them myself, but only when I am already going to be near that particular store for another reason (usually work related).
