Show us your breakfast (2025)

People sometimes look down on baked beans forgetting they’re eating a plateful of healthy haricot beans. The only thing I find with tinned baked beans is they’re rarely cooked for long enough.
Once you make your own ‘baked beans’ you never look back! You may buy them ready made but you’ll never leave them on their own, mine had garlic, onion granules, paprika, smoked salt and white pepper added. Oh and chorizo.
You can make homemade ones with any types of beans you like too.
Chorizo baked beans are not that dissimilar to a stew using meat and beans 😂

As a side note to this morning's breakfast out, DH & I both agreed we won't be going back to that particular café again... $50 for 3 plates, 2 drinks, tax & a 15% tip ... poor service, just a poor dining experience all the way around, AGAIN! That's the third time we've been there, so we gave them a good chance.
Wow, I can almost eat for 2 weeks on that. 😲

My Mother needed to have fasting blood work done, so I rewarded her with breakfast out afterwards.
(it took 1 1/2 hours from the time we walked in til the time we walked !!!)

DH requested their Jumbo Cinnamon Roll (I tried to say, you won't like it ...🤷‍♀️)

Both Mom & I ordered the Western Skillet, think Western Omelette deconstructed with Hash Browns on the bottom, very good.
I had American-Style soft scrambled Eggs and Mom's was fried Medium - Mom ate all of her food, where I on the hand only ate half
Why wouldn't DH like the jumbo cinnamon roll? Did you mean he wouldn't like it, he would absolutely love it?

Beans on toast seems to be a British thing. Sazzi is throwing her own in with the chorizo???

I've had beans on toast and an egg for breakfast and it's *quite* filling; in a good way!
Yeah but I am guessing it's Spanish chorizo, which I have never had, but it's quite different from Mexican chorizo from what I understand. Apparently Spanish chorizo is more of a cured meat sausage that looks similar to a pepperoni but of course has Spanish seasonings. I don't think I know anyone who has had both and can weigh in on this. TastyReuben or karadekoolaid have you guys tasted both kinds, and if so, how are they different taste wise?

I love me some queso fundido with bulk Mexican chorizo...yum. Might be a Superbowl snack this Sunday.

Yes, I’ve had both, and they’re both good in their own way - I posted a challenge entry on here somewhere with a big pan full of sliced fried potatoes, onion, sliced Spanish chorizo, and melted cheese. It was delicious.

Yes, the Spanish chorizo I’ve had is a dried sausage, I had to peel it, and then I sliced it into coin-sized pieces. I can get it at just about any decently-sized grocery store here.

You know, I've never looked for it. The only big grocery chain we have here is Meijer and it's 25 minutes away while the small regional grocery stores are 5 minutes. I'll keep an eye out for it because I want to try it.

I've had both and I prefer the Mexican.

JAS_OH1 the icing on a Cinnamon Roll is always made from Cream Cheese, umm... "EWWWW it's too creamy!"
Yeah, that's a hard no, especially when I knew darn well that it was very Cream Cheese forward tasting.
Now if I had made it, with a very light hand of the Cream Cheese, yeah, okay, go for it.

Barriehie I have a bunch of canned Baked Beans in my "C-Store" aka my dry goods pantry, I'll start out small and try Beans and Eggs, the toast, hmmm, I don't care for soggy bread, so there's that ...
About the third time in I didn't butter the toast and started with the toast and beans; and ate fast...

Oh well in my neck of the words it's not always made with cream cheese.

I like toast saturated with runny fried egg yolks! I'm not putting beans on my toast but they can share the plate. My DH likes rice and beans with eggs on top.

Chorizo means sausage. You can have cured chorizo, (which come in all shapes and sizes) or fresh chorizo. There are probably as many types of chorizo, in the Spanish-speaking world, as there are sausages in the USA/Europe.
Cured chorizo, in Spain, is heavy on the paprika (pimentón) and garlic, and since the Spanish conquistadores took their chorizo over to S America, we've all used the same basic recipe, with local variations. Mexican chorizo will undoubtedly have some chile pepper and possibly cumin as well.
Fresh chorizo is similar to a British banger in size, although there are smaller, thinner versions (salchicha blanca, roja, xistorra) depending on the area.
In many Latin American countries, a chorizo would typically be cooked on a grill/BBQ.

You’re close to Giant Eagle, right*? Check this out:

So you might be in luck - I got those results after googling Giant Eagle Akron and clicking on one of the stores (Waterloo?).

I like them both, for different reasons, but yeah, they’re different products.

*We go to northern Ohio occasionally and we also go to Pennsylvania once or twice a year…I can never remember which location has Giant Eagle grocery stores and which location has Giant grocery stores.
