There is a particular variety of quince, Aromatnaya - a round yellow quince from southern Russia which is extremely aromatic with a fresh pineapple-like flavour.

We used to have that growing at our old home in the UK. Very hard but the fragrance was divine. The other variety was softer, will better flavour but no fragrance we could detect over the other bush.
