This evening we had a meal at an Italian restaurant Casa Romana :hungry: second time we have been there, a small unassuming place but they let the food speak for itself.

My main course was fish lasagne, big chunks of mixed fish, the pasta was really thin so it didn't feel heavy as pasta sometimes can.

I think it's fair to say that the advent of the railways in Britain changed the whole way of life. Even time changed - places had their own, local times before the railways. The time in, say, Bristol was different to that in London. With the need for timetables, time had to be standardised.

It changed our houses - most dwellings had thatched or reed roofs, but the transport of slate from the quarries of North Wales meant that there was a big increase in slate roofing.

The transportation of food and livestock meant that eating habits changed as well. In fact, there wasn't much that was not affected by the railways.

Today is my birthday and my husband cooked me my favourite meal. Ribeye steak, baby new potatoes served on a bed if rocket and a bottle of prosecco

Well I seem to have managed to program the 'new' hen (formerly a pullet) to lay in the nesting boxes rather than under the house by destroying any hope of her using the former nesting site under the house and also by leaving a (shop purchased) egg in one of the nesting boxes. She will only lay in the nesting box with the egg in it currently, but its a start. Now to go and collect said egg (2 eggs today from 2 hens) and wash and date it.
Then back into the garden to continue working there until it rains. It is looking like that won't be long. I have managed 2 hours so far, but I suspect I won't get to midday before rain happens. However I have plenty of cooking lined up for this afternoon. 2 batches of vegan sausage shaped food to make and then some homemade chip for evening meal which is chips, eggs, sausage shaped food and peas! :D

Thank you. No pics, no cake no bike ride, we were both at work yesterday.
whilst I hate having a birthday in Christmas week, with most companies closing down for that period, (though I have worked it once) I usually get my birthday off.
Sadly the same is not true for my husband but he always takes the day as annual leave and we do something special.

will you do something at the weekend instead?

Last Saturday we went to Casa Romana which was very tasty. I don't like to take time off work just for a birthday however we were in St Lucia for my 40'th and we will be going somewhere special for my 50'th, plenty of time to plan but I am thinking Vietnam or Cambodia.
