Myself and a colleague arrived at a hotel in Dussledorf quite late and the restaurant was closed. However, we noticed that there was a buffet on the next floor down so we got into that. A waiter came around and we asked him for a couple of beers. He went off and spoke to a guy who came over to us to explain that we were at a private party and whilst they didn't object to feeding us for free they were not going to stand for our beer!
Something similar happened to us. I think I mentioned it before.

We were on a guided long weekend trip to Amsterdam, and the lodgings were in one of those ubiquitous “tourist hotels.”

Breakfast was included, but being Americans, we didn’t know that there were different levels of breakfast, depending on what each tour had cost.

We were on the bottom rung, just bread, cheese, lunch meats, but on the way down, we say this other room filled with all that and pastries and cereals and cooked-to-order eggs, so we just figured, “This must be where breakfast is,” and wandered in there.

I'm not a huge Eastwood fan, but that was a pretty good movie. Not a happy ending, though.

Not a huge fan myself but it was a good movie and he does have a screen presence. He can say so much just from standing in a certain way and glaring.

Even though we have had our first winter freeze, pollen (or something) is bad here, too. I've been fighting a runny nose and itchy eyes for weeks. A lot of my friends are having problems with allergies, too. That's not normal for winter here. But, it was 77F/25C here yesterday. That's not normal -- well, it wasn't normal 20 years ago.

Another follow up for the broken ankle, another 6 weeks in the boot. I’m really frustrated that it’s taking so long to heal.

I am able to walk with only 1 crutch now. The doctor said I should be able to wean off crutches and be down to just walking in the boot in another 2-3 weeks. I’m happy about that, I’d just been hopeful to get back to my normal activities (especially horseback riding) soon but no dice.

Give it time, you’re getting there. You want to make sure you don’t rush it or you could have a setback.

I got my first broken bone when I was 15. I was in a cast for three weeks. We heal so fast when we are young.

December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy... President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Today is the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

It has been overcast, with rain, fog and drizzle for three days strait. It's got me in a grumpy mood. This time of year is always hard for me to deal with. Short days, not much sun, and it's wet all the time, even when it is not actually raining.

Of course, TastyR will probably be checking out flights to Dallas when he reads this.
