That reminds me of when I've worked on very tall buildings in NYC (50 + storoes) putting up sattelite dishes, and in the very early morning you can see the yellowish layer of pollution below you as you look out over the city.
As soon as the sun gets high enough and starts to heat the air, that layer of yellow layer expands up so you can't see it any longer. Ypu're essentially now standing in it.
