We have left my engagement and our wedding rings at the jewellers we originally bought them from, after almost 10 years they need a proper clean up, my finger now feels weird!

It's blowing a gale this morning with a few squally showers just to liven things up a bit. Still, I managed to sneak into the last spot on the Guardian's letters page, so I'm feeling better for that little piece of self-indulgence.

The jeweller had a beautiful pair of earrings for sale but the were over £100.00 so didn't buy them, I cannot justify spending that much.

If you like them buy them - A - you can't take it with you B - no point putting it in a bank the interest rates are worthless C - if you have a penny left at the end the government will try to take it away - at least jewelry etc can be passed on

I agree but I don't wear jewellery very often so it would be a waste, it would be better spent on a meal or cinema tickets or such like.

Eating out here the standard utensils provided are fork and spoon, knife and fork or chopsticks. Some friends were visiting over the weekend and at a local restaurant we were given pointing trowels which is a new one on me.

@Yorky ...that's handy !

This forum needs a thread about pointing and pointing techniques ...I'm on it.

Incidentally, that's an English pointing trowel - the French ones are straight, and over the years, I've come to prefer them.

Give me an old stone wall, a pile of fine sand, a couple of sacks of lime - and I'm happier than Larry (whoever he was)
