Just a few hours, and I'll be on a plane back to Dallas. American must be overbooked on main cabin seats, because they moved me to first class -- one of the perks of flying 100-plus times a year. It is a short flight, but it will be comfortable and include free cocktails in real glasses.

I'll have to get used to saying things once, instead of twice -- the second time LOUDER.

We stopped off at a cool little bar in Las Vegas - the Oak and Ivy built inside a shipping container. I've mentioned it here before.
A couple came in visiting from Scotland. He a rep for Johnny Walker she a teacher.
Looked like they just stepped off a wedding cake.

I asked all about the “labels” Johnny Walker produces and he had some interesting info.

In the US one just orders “Green label” or “Black label” or "Blue Label" or the label of choice.
JW also has labels we all never heard of he told us. “Platinum Label” for instance.

So we got to talking about Scotland and how the Scottish are depicted by Hollywood.

I have lots of family and friends there as do they of course.
We got a good laugh and all agreed none are the puddin’ face, one tooth, wearing gloves with fingertips worn out, warming themselves over a stolen lump of coal singing songs with a shop-worn beret wearing tabby cat name McTavish.

I bought a few rounds for the house as did others but the Scottish couple preferred to pay for their own.
Kinda funny, taken back by some, but we were all cool with it in the end.

We spent about two weeks travelling around Scotland 20 years ago. Isle of Skye was my fave. And Loch Ness of course.

Mr 7 knows it all but couldn't get his Xmas present drone to fly, I waited until he went to bed last night then grabbed the drone. After reading instructions I charged the battery up, it would only fly for a second or so. Charged and trialled, flys like a dream. I'm his favourite person this morning, he's just gone with his mum to a skate park to skate then fly his drone. He's was spoilt on Xmas day.
All quiet here now, I'm watching horse racing shortly. Maybe a few bets.

Russ

No - but I would like to. What is the most you ever won on a horse?

7k, when one of my horses raced, the trainer said she would win that night, she won, paid $17 and $3.50 the place. I had $50 to win, quinella my horse and field, and trifecta my horse field field. I got just over 7k back , but if I had taken a treble my horse and field field in it I would have scooped the pool. The third horse in the treble paid $55 to win, it wasn't struck. I could have scooped the pool, about $20k from memory. Lots of 1k and 2k collects every now and then.
Another bet I took my trainer was taking a horse down south to get a good mile rate to her name to enhance breeding career. He said don't back next start but the following one get on it. The horse was owned by an all black. Won and paid $28 , I had $50 to win on her.

Same, broke even Boxing Day, very very close to a $600 trifecta, second and third reversed. Win some, lose some. Have you been to glorious good wood?

Russ

When I think of "Goodwood," I think of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and Goodwood Revival, which is very classic cars being raced and/or driven very fast.

Same place?

W spent today with my husband's family as we do every year, we always take veggie samosas and dhal kochuri. Thus afternoon my husband's niece announced that 'as soon as she walked in she knew we were already there because of the smell' we knew what she meant

My kids say the same, except they say they can smell my cooking walking up the driveway!!

I've been fortunate enoughto have raced a classic 1970's Ferrari in one of the race experiences Goodwood hold. Hubby bought me a double session for my 35th birthday. I've been teaching advanced level driving since I was 18 years old so was right at home with what was expected of me (my first vehicle was a XR3i, 2nd great would do 60mph). By the end of the first lap, my instructor realised the only issue he was going to have was actually getting me to drive close enough to the vehicle in front to line up an overtaking manoeuvre. By the end of the session, there wasn't a vehicle I hadn't overtaken on the track and others were starting to watch and question...

By this time in my life, my vehicle was a 1998 model Audi A4 2.8l Quattro. We never ever had an issues overtaking anything in her and tbh, I think she was actually faster than the Ferrari was!

But it was still huge fun and I'd love to do it again.

And in comes the smoke again.
Managed to drop the internal temperature by all of 1°C in the 60 minutes of windows open.

Guess what hubby bought me for a certain celebration? A portable aircon unit.
The irony? The fan in his car stopped working on tbe way home! He did suss out that if he allows external air he gets cold air from the car aircon unit, pushed through by allowing external air... so assuming it's only hot, not smokey, he can still use his car comfortably.

Guessing my vehicle is going to be setting some use until we can get to the Mitsubishi garage for parts. Fitting a new fan (we've checked the fuse) is fairly easy thankfully. If parts are often on Monday then we can buy a new fan and get it fitted before he goes back to work on 2nd Jan.

We've also got another new chick (bantam) today. 2 more eggs have pipped, a 3rd I can hear tapping and a 4th (last one) is chattering away inside the egg, so by the end of tomorrow, if all goes well I'll have another 4 bantam chicks to add to the 3 that hatched last Saturday and the 1 that hatched today. They ate all behind hand raised despite there being a broody ready to raise them. Sadly bantams are notorious for being almost feral chickens at the best of times and this mum, whilst excellent in the motherhood duties, raises totally feral chicks. So I'm hand raising them.
