Monthly council tax (covers local services - bin collection, contribution to emergency services etc.) is just short of £260 per month. Bins get emptied every other week. Where's my passport?
Mate the bins cost 20 kuna a month or about £2.25. Water average is 100 kuna or about £12.25 a month. Communal for emergency service etc 60 kuna a month about £7.50 a month. Everything is electric ( underfloor heating, air con ) except for 3 gas rings on the hob. Bottled gas is 120 kuna or £15 . the bottle lasts 3/4 months. The Brexit deal for us was good only because banking has not been changed so free money transfers have not been disrupted or stopped. Also when we arrived 2+ years ago the pound was weak so the exchange rate was 7.9 kuna for a pound. The best it has been is is 8.45 kuna for a pound. Friday it was 8.3, with stability I expect it to get to 9+ kuna to the pound in the spring. The governments fiscal control here is tight as the Croatian Economy is really just starting to reap the benefits of EU membership so inflation is about 1% higher than in the UK.I have a 5yrs temporary residency permit which if I keep my nose clean will be converted to permanent residence due to my wife dual Croatian/Brit nationality. This may interest you it compares the cost of living between Split and Chester. Because of tourism Split is one of the most expensive area's in Croatia. We live 10 km from Split so the C/L is about 10% less. Cost of Living Comparison Between Split, Croatia And Chester, United Kingdom

Our first dog (as a married couple) was shot by a neighbor. She was eight. If I could have killed that bastard, I would have, but shooting dogs in a farming community isn't unusual, because a stray dog is seen as a threat. Didn't make it any better.

With Kate, she's probably close to 19 years old. She's had a good...make that a great run. We've had her over 16 years ourselves. That does make it easier, especially seeing her decline, just in the last month. It's all age-related, and it can't be fixed or managed much more, and we've had the discussion with the vet the last couple of visits about "the time is drawing near."

I know you mentioned Sega in a PM a while ago, and when they're that young, that's what's so hard. It's hard enough with Kate at her age, but to have to euthanize a dog so young...hard isn't the word for it.
Just getting around to reading this tonight. I am so sorry. I'm glad that you've had so many good years with her. It's the memories we have of our loved ones (human and furry) that matter. Give Kate an extra hug and kiss from me.

My heart goes out to you and Mrs. T.

I'm sorry if I insulted one or more members with my spelling posts (here; I deleted the one about "tumeric" but it can be seen in the comments of other members); they were more about my persnickety and sarcastic nature than about anyone's occasional misspelling. We all misspell at times - and I certainly am not picking on anyone's English or persona. Tumeric (corr. turmeric) is a very common misspelling which stems from the pronunciation and is an absolutely negligible thing for anyone else than a non-native English speaker (like me) who has to focus on spelling and grammatical matters on a daily basis - and thus (maybe) spots misspellings a bit easier. I emphasize once again that this whole misspelling show is not about any member, their skills or personas. It's about my pedantic nature and closed-mindedness - and my apparent flaws in social behavior. Peace, I hope - and end of misspelling discussion.

Don't fret. I don't think anyone got upset. I'm very, pernickety about spelling (and correct grammar) but because I'm a mod. I can correct misspelling when I spot it, so it doesn't have to nag away at me! As I think I said elsewhere, if you or anyone spots any misspelling, just hit the Report button for that post and I can then correct it. That would be most helpful.

What is the time limit for self editing posts please. Another XenForo forum to which I am affiliated is about 60 minutes.

When I worked for magazines, I learned that one should NEVER just proofread their own writing. They will read right through their mistakes. Before going to print, I printed out copies of every article for everyone on the staff, and they would proofread them, and mark them up with standard proofreaders marks. I would then go though every article from every proofreader, and make the corrections.

Even with all that proofreading, every once in a while, we would find a typo or misspelling when we received the printed magazines.

I've done it days after posting, if I come across a typo. I usually find those when someone posts a reply to one of my posts, and I read it all. The edit doesn't apply to the reply post, but I feel better when it is fixed in my post.

When I worked for a living in the Deputy Project Manager position, I was adamant with the Project Manager that we had to each read the other's letters prior to submission. He wasn't happy at first but he discovered the benefits after a short time. When I became Project Manager, I virtually always had my deputy/assistant read my letters before submission.

However, my deputy on one job (who has been a friend for 50 years and still is) would write up meeting minutes. They would then be typed and I would vet them. I invariably made some amendments and he would say "That is not what you said". "Ah, but if I had have said that, the client would have picked up on it". Surprisingly I cannot remember the client ever pointing out the errors.

Cost is £1.75/litre in Makro;

Not so far off - here is a lager I buy for my partner: £1.88 a litre. I think cheaper can be found in Aldi.

Sorry I don't know - but it is quite a long time. SatNavSaysStraightOn will know. As a mod I can edit anything however old, so if you ever come across something you can't edit just hit the Report button and I can do it for you.

Well, I've been up all night, again. For the last couple of weeks, I've been on a normal sleep cycle -- in bed at midnight, up at 8AM. But now, it is after 5AM, and I'm not the slightest bit tired. I don't get it.

Ahhh, but does he drink 4 - 5 litres/day?

Let me think... he drinks 4 of those cans = 1760 ml He also has another brand 4 x 330ml bottles = 1320 ml Total: 3 litres and a bit., I think. He used to drink much stronger lager and about 10 cans a day. He was totally out of control, particularly given the dementia. It was positively dangerous, as he kept falling over when out walking. I'm now in charge of his money so he is unable to purchase any himself. I order his drink on-line and ration it out. By trial and error I've worked out that if he doesn't drink more than the allocation he is able to function. He isn't happy about it but he is at least 'safe'. The beer is all 'hidden' so that he can't cheat. I also have to lock all my wine away plus all the cooking alcohol otherwise he drinks it when he gets up at 6 am! Its really quite tiresome having to keep everything monitored.
