The GC is hugely popular here (Gold Coast Queensland) we normally go for two weeks in our winter. It's about 15 deg c hotter than here. We have also flown into cairns and driven back down to Brisbane over 10 days, it's an awesome trip. We usually do it with friends. Lots of kiwis go there in our winter. I'm happy with anywhere warm.

B*gger, f*** and everything else.
I need immediate surgery on my ankle. Ruptured 2 of the major ligaments and partially torn 2 important tendons . At least 4-6 wks in the boot after surgery! This boot and I need to become friends. Grrr

I absolutely HATE hospitals, so feel for you. I should go get a minor nose throat job done, but it requires hospitalisation. I'll put up with it thanks. You need hubby to step up again.

Did you fall again, or is this something from the last time that didn't show up at first?

I do not miss that at all. I have pictures of trees and everything else (including power lines) from right before we left Kentucky to live here. We've the downside of a hurricane now and again, but I'd rather deal with that than months of ice and snow.

I like snow... on the side of a mountain... with a ski lift and a bar at the bottom.

I went skiing for the first and last time with a workmate who was a fanatic. I couldn't ski, I gave up and sat in the car for about 4 hrs while he skied. 30 plus years ago. I could ice skate and roller skate but couldn't ski. I too would be happy in a bar.

This is from my 2nd fall (first was in December, 2nd in January).

The hospital did an xray only which showed the break but they told me that the sprain was worse than the break. When i saw my physio he was concerned that it was more severe than the hospital thought and that they may have not picked up on as much as they could have and not done as many tests as they should have because of the wheelchair. If I was wheelchair bound it wouldn't matter if the ligaments were totally ruptured. But they are 2 of the 3 major ligaments in the ankle and effectively hold the ankle together. If all 3 were totally ruptured the ankle would have dislocated.
So he ordered an ultrasound to see what was going on.
Basically 2 major ligaments are totally ruptured, 2 major tendons are torn (no surgery needed for them) and I've broken my big toe (minor break but removing the bone fragment would be useful).

As hubby said, when the physio starts the conversation with 'you've got good insurance haven't you' you know it's bad. His next comment was to ask hubby to come in with me (he was anyway, we knew the US hadn't given good news).

Waiting on daughter and mr8 to get here, they've been away for 5 days in a camper van on holiday in Dunedin. A 5 hr drive south. Modelled on Edinburgh. I have to follow them to drop it off then run them home. Then pub with my mate dafyd.

So, I went out in the yard with my dog, and he chased a rat up a tall bush. I quietly slipped back inside and got my pellet gun. I snuck up on the treed rat, had him in my sights, about three feet away, and... click. CO2 cartridge empty. By the time I get a refill, the rat was gone.

At least no new rat nests in my MINI's engine compartment. I don't smell $#IT burning anymore, so I guess I finally got all the nest stuff out.

I really miss our neighborhood feral cats.

So...Kate the dog shuffled off our part of the mortal coil Jan 4th. What did I see today? A cat up on my back deck and the remains of a bird on the front porch.

We've had the odd feral cat show up along the brush line in the very early mornings, but never one up on the back deck. I reckon that's how long it takes for a dog's scent to leave the property. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Teddy likes to chase cats, squirrels, and other animals, but I think the cats could sense that he was playing -- that he didn't want to hurt them. They had no problem coming around my yard. Of course, they did their hunting in the middle of the night, when the mice and rats are active. So, Teddy was generally in bed when the cats were around.

Hope you won't have to pay too much for this, physically or materially
Luckily we have very good healthy insurance so they're should be no gap. Usually if we have to pay anything out at all, we can claim it back afterwards. It was a condition of us coming out from the UK (where obviously we had the free NHS service, substantial reduction for medication fees via prepayment certificate and also private healthcare with Bupa through my husband's work. That only covered new conditions but things like my back were covered by it ). Everyone on secondment here got the same cover . my hubby was able to get us added to the company's scheme when he took an Australian contact and was no longer on secondment because we couldn't afford to stay out here otherwise and they wanted him to stay (good at his job etc). So we pay privately into the same scheme. It gets confusing at times and occasionally causes issues but it always gets sorted out.
