I am having insomnia and as my mind was wondering around and thinking about food and cooking, suddenly I remembered a really good chicken my grandmother used to make in this thing here which in portuguese is called a "cloche". I can't figure out what's the name in English and aftee much googling I only learned the portuguese also call this "patusca" which literally means "cutie". Funny thing is, these things ran out of fashion 10 or 20 years ago and I currently don't know anyone who owns one. My grandma also used it to cook pudding but I can't remember any other dishes she made here.

The closest, erm, gentlemen's club to me is about 40 minutes away, in a very nondescript little shopping center, and it's a private club. You have to be sponsored in and pay a monthly membership.
When I first moved to Frisco in 1995, the population was 8,000 (now 200,495), and there were 8 working brothels in town. Yes, real brothels, hidden behind names like the 121 Tub Club, April's, and Michelle's Ranch. Seemed the old, small town city leaders had some kind of agreement.

Now, the closest thing you will find is a Hooter's restaurant.

It's funny when some of us who have lived here that long tell newcomers about the brothels. They often just don't believe us. I often wish I had taken pictures of them back then.

Still old fashioned massage parlours here. Charlie's was popular. Covid may have effected them. Manchester st has hookers at night.

I've never needed their services but I know what goes on.

RIP

NÜRBURG, Germany -- Sabine Schmitz, the first and only female race car driver to win the annual 24-hour race on the famed Nürburgring circuit and a renowned TV personality, has died. She was 51.

Schmitz had been ill with cancer since 2017 and continued racing until 2019. The 24-hour race's organizers said she died Tuesday following "a years-long battle with her disease."

Sabine was nicknamed "Queen of the Nürburgring, and on the BBC TV show Top Gear, ran a 10 minute lap... in a Ford Transit Van with a 130HP Diesel engine. Most drivers couldn't do that in a Porsche 911. And, she was laughing the entire lap, while Richard Hammond was screaming for his mommy.

Co-op is a supermarket? Or am I mistaken...or do you refer to the chain as Co-op?
The Co-op (or Co-operative Group in full) is a consumer co-operative that is owned by its members. They have a lot of supermarkets and smaller convenience stores, but also offer insurance, funeral services and chemists. They used to have a holiday business as well, but they sold that some years ago (to Thomas Cook, who went bust last year, so probably a wise move).

They used to provide banking services, but while the bank is still known as The Co-operative Bank, it is not owned by the Co-op any more. I have an account with them, as they were about the only bank that had an ethical trading policy.

Ethical trading is part of the Co-op's ideals - they were the first UK supermarket to introduce fair trade goods and the first to sell exclusively free range eggs. While they don't get everything right, they at least retain some of the ideals they began with way back in the 19th century.

That sounds marvelous!
How extraordinary that they got rid of the travel business just prior, Pandemic would have smashed it anyways...
Thomas Cook is not familiar to me, but shall research...

Fair trade is so important, I find. There was a splendid exhibition for children about Money and Trade, sponsored by Erste Bank, Austrian bank, I assume, and that was when I first learned about fair production and fair trade, along with my daughter. They had among the many interesting topics, interactive toy shops where one could choose to buy e.g. ethical chocolate with fair wages and all. It was brilliant and eye-opening!

We might have visited it thrice, as the kid loved it so much.

It is wonderful to hear banks or corporate groups actually care about fair...
Yes, free range eggs and grass fed meat is certainly better for all involved...
One could wish there were more such businesses and fair interactions...
Thank you for sharing!

Did anything like this happen to you? This evening entering the train, the driver closed off the door too quickly and clinched my hand. I saw it coming so I rushed with my body, and the right hand carrying the bag was clinched. Luckily, doors opened soon again, and could take out the hand, with seemingly no serious damage. i am so happy it was cold and I wore a thick jacket. It cushioned my hand.
